The View Battles Over Kavanaugh: GOP Won’t Blow Their ‘Chance of a Lifetime’ to Overturn Roe
The View, on Tuesday, debated the upcoming Senate hearing in which Christine Blasey Ford and Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh will both testify about the sexual assault allegations made by the former against the latter.
The panel began by comparing President Donald Trump‘s statement defending Kavanaugh to similar remarks he’s made about figures like Rob Porter, Michael Flynn and Kim Jong Un. This led to Whoopi Goldberg asking whether the FBI needs to do another investigation on Kavanaugh before there’s a confirmation vote.
Sunny Hostin criticized congressional Republicans who want to rush the judge’s confirmation, saying a new investigation is necessary given the seriousness of the allegations and the political importance of Kavanaugh’s nomination.
Abby Hunstman pushed back by saying there’s a lot of things the public doesn’t yet know about the allegations, and an investigation should wait until Kavanaugh and Ford’s Senate hearing next week.
This led to a heated exchange with Joy Behar, who was very doubtful about Republicans souring on Kavanaugh.
“I think [Sen.] Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and those Republicans would want [Kavanaugh] in there because this is the chance of a lifetime to get a conservative justice who’s gonna overturn Roe V. Wade. They’re gonna do whatever they have to do to get there.”
Huntsman stuck to her argument, saying Kavanaugh’s confirmation is up in the air right now, and it’s likely that the vote for his confirmation will hinge on how the hearing goes on Monday.
