White House Official to Axios: Trump ‘Just Trolling All of You’ With ‘Calm Before the Storm’ Remark

Axios’s Jonathan Swan appeared on MSNBC to discuss President Donald Trump’s ominous remark from the White House Thursday night referencing a “calm before the storm” — and made an interesting revelation.

MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle said the remark, which Trump declined to elucidate to reporters, is “part of the president’s love for drama and reality T.V.”

“I think there’s a high degree of probability that he’s trolling everyone,” Swan said.

“I was talking to a senior official last night, somebody who, I should stress, is not on the NSC, who would not be privy to any covert operations,” Swan continued. “And they started laughing, saying: ‘Don’t you get it? He’s just trolling all of you.'”

“Of course it’s trolling with very serious consequences,” Swan noted. “This is what he does with national security.”

Swan said the ordeal was similar to a meeting Axios reported on last week, in which Trump told his chief trade negotiator to tell South Korea that he was “so crazy” he could pull out of a trade deal “any minute.”

“And that’s sort of the madman kind of approach that he’s taking with North Korea…make these wild statements, these sort of destabilizing statements and sort of let the chips fall where they may,” Swan said.

“Obviously there are kind of risks to that kind of conduct.”
