Fox News Chris Stirewalt: Trump Is ‘A Reality Show Host Who Likes a Cliffhanger’
Frequent viewers of Fox News likely know Chris Stirewalt to be a down-t0-earth and relatable straight-shooter. And today’s appearance with host Bill Hemmer did nothing to dismiss his reputation for providing homespun wisdom and refreshing candor in a sea of predictable partisan cable news punditry.
When asked by Hemmer what to make of President Donald Trump’s “calm before the storm” aside to a White House press pool last night — a comment that’s led to a lot of hand-wringing and analysis — Stirewalt saw it in much simpler terms, noting the President’s background as an entertainter.
“This is a reality show host” Stirewalt explained, adding “He loves the cliffhanger.” He then explained that Trump likely “looked around and saw all the scrambled eggs on all the shoulders in that room when he had the — his general officers together and he thought this is an awesome picture and it will look great. He has them together and I assume he thinks this will scare Kim Jong-un, a guy who likes military parades, big shows of strength and force.”
After Hemmer notes that Trump likes generals and the military, Stirewalt added “He likes all that sassafras. If you’re him and thinking about and writing the script of your own presidency a little cliffhanger here and make Iran or North Korea think what is he talking about?”
No word on whether or not Mr. Stirewalt is pitching a biography tentatively titled Scrambled Eggs and Sassafras: Why President Trump Loves Generals.
Jokes aside, however candid Stirewalt’s assessment might be, it hits a similar dismissive tone put forth by MSNBC’s Morning Joe earlier today who similarly derided Trump’s “calm before the storm” comment as the behavior of a”game show host.”
A Fox News pundit and MSNBC show sharing the same analysis? Is this the dawn of a new harmonic convergence? We can only hope.
