WNYW Fox 5 Newsman Fails To Make Jersey Shore‘s “The Situation” Feel Shame

You’re a straight-laced local news anchor used to the typical wholesome news breaks and polite guests talking about their new products. Into your studio walks Jersey Shore’s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, selling a workout supplement. What do you do?

For WNYW Fox 5 New York’s Greg Kelly, The Situation seemed a perplexing and unfamiliar figure, and while he handled it with poise, it seemed pretty clear he wasn’t sure how to approach this whole “The Jersey Shore” phenomenon. For starters, he asks The Situation what his life was before he became famous, which actually elicits a strange, interesting answer: he was a “mortgage broker-slash-fitness trainer.” Yes, The Situation, a man made of 98% abs, was a mortgage broker. Good thing life took care of fixing that one.

The interview then takes the inevitable turn for the awkward as The Situation faces questions about, well, his disgrace: “When you look at it though, do you wince sometimes? Nobody wants– most people don’t want to be seen on television when they’re drunk, you know what I mean? And a lot of folks are drunk, they’re at their worst, and there you are– this is how you made your name!” Silly newsman, The Situation has no shame! In fact, his best response to that question is “To be honest, I think I look pretty good on TV.”

After the failed shaming, The Situation tries to sell a creatine-based product, then mispronounces “creatine.” Watching the Jersey Shore kids out of their element– and proper television personalities try to handle them– is almost as good as the Jersey Shore show itself.
