‘High Class A**hole’: John Cleese Hits Out At GB News Colleague Jacob Rees-Mogg
Comedian and GB News host John Cleese hit out at network colleague Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg on Monday, blasting him as a “very high class asshole who should never be allowed to represent ordinary constituents.”
Cleese, who was born in Weston-super-Mare in Somerset, said the fact that Rees-Mogg held a seat in North East Somerset made him “feel shame.”

Famous for his roles in the Monty Python comedy troupe and 1970s sitcom Fawlty Towers, Cleese now presents a series for GB News called The Dinosaur Hour. Prior to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s general election announcement, Rees-Mogg also presented a show on the channel called Jacob Rees-Mogg’s State Of The Nation.
The 84-year-old comedian was responding to a short documentary about Rees-Mogg shared by political campaign group Led By Donkeys. The video highlights Rees-Mogg’s past provocative political statements made on issues like climate change, Brexit, social issues such as same-sex marriage and employment rights.
The clip also profiles Rees-Mogg’s privileged upbringing as the son of Times editor William Rees-Mogg, his having been raised by the family’s nanny, Eton education and early political and business ambitions, including an admiration for former Tory Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and role as a partner at a hedge fund.
The video then looks at the significant roles Rees-Mogg has played in successive Tory governments in Brexit, criticising him for having elitist attitudes.
