Shocked GMB Host Susanna Reid Breaks News Of Strictly Come Dancing Partner Robin Windsor’s Sudden Death
Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid admirably maintained composure, despite clearly being in shock, as she announced the breaking news of the death of professional dancer Robin Windsor at 44.
As the story broke, Reid attempted to share the news but handed off to her co-host Ed Balls who continued.
“I’m afraid I’ve got some very sad news to break about a much-beloved member of the Strictly Come Dancing family,” she began, “because on their Facebook page today… I’m sorry, I’m not going to be able to read this, Ed, because I danced with him. It’s about Robin Windsor.”
Balls then took over, reading a statement from Burn The Floor, the theatrical dance company that Windsor was part of.
The co-host read: “The Burn the Floor family has lost one of its founding members, Robin Bobby Windsor, who has tragically passed away. A Burn the Floor journeyman, he danced with us for 20 years, including Broadway, the West End and all our crazy adventures around the world… Colourful, extreme, sensual. His talent, his attitude, his energy, his personality helped create Burn the Floor’s stage reputation.”
Windsor, who worked as a Strictly Come Dancing professional across several seasons, dazzled audiences on the BBC One show from 2010 to 2013, leaving his mark on the dance floor with his performances alongside celebrity partners such as Patsy Kensit, Anita Dobson, Lisa Riley, and Deborah Meaden.
Reid paid tribute to Windsor, who she danced with in 2011 on the Strictly Come Dancing Children in Need Special: “Robin was larger than life and I fell in love with him and fell in love with dancing when I danced with him back then.”
She continued: “He was an absolutely remarkable dancer – incredibly strong, so creative. He’s just so enthusiastic about dancing. I just adored him. He was the most incredible personality and as soon as I danced with him, there was something very special about him.”
Guest Richard Arnold, who starred in the show while Windsor worked there in 2012, struggled to speak.
“I can’t quite believe it, actually,” he said. “Such heart, such a talent, such a twinkler. It’s a bit of a shock to be honest.”
Windsor’s career on Strictly was cut short after a severe injury—a slipped disc that left him paralysed for four days—forced him to step down. However, he made a triumphant return in 2014, performing in Strictly’s first ever same-sex dance with fellow pro Aljaž Škorjanec.
Tributes have since poured in from across the dance and entertainment community, including from Strictly host Craig Revel Horwood and fellow dancer Karen Hauer.
