Sky News’ Kay Burley Under Fire For ‘Irritated Disdain’ At Mention Of Israeli Hostages

Sky News host Kay Burley was criticised for her body language Friday after a pre-show social media post, featuring a walk through the newsroom with her producer, showed her display playful exasperation at the mention of a segment on the Israeli hostage exchange.

As Burley and her producer run through the “very busy morning” ahead in the set piece, including an interview with Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, the producer mentions the Israeli hostage exchange, expected to happen on Friday.

“And what is going on with the hosts in the hands of Hamas and those Palestinian prisoners?” the producer asked.

Burley appears to drop her shoulders, sigh and roll her eyes.

The producer continues: “What didn’t happen? What was meant to happen… something is meant to be happening, well, in just a few hours. What’s going on?”

“Maybe it’ll happen tomorrow,” Burley said. “Let’s hope so, for the sake of all those families. Meantime, lots of Palestinians were killed again overnight, according to reports from the Palestinian Authority.”

What was supposed to be a novel video clip quickly went viral and received online backlash from viewers, including Daniel Sugarman, Director of Public Affairs for the Board of Deputies of British Jews.

Some criticised her apparent “irritated disdain” at the mention of the hostages.

Meanwhile, others criticised her more personally and overtly.

Others, branding Burley a “disgrace”, called on media watchdog Ofcom to investigate.
