Dear Hollywood, If You Want to Help Roman Polanski Then Please Shut Up

But Hollywood, this sort of above-the-law attitude is why people hate you. I mean, Joseph Goebbels liked making films too, but he didn’t have the emotional acuity or cinematic vision of Polanski (also: not brilliant). Which means you didn’t really mind that this filmmaker died in a French cinema fire, as Quentin Tarantino taught us recently. Also, besides being a poor filmmaker, Steven Spielberg gave us some other reasons why we don’t really like Goebbels.

Look, Hollywood, we know there were some questions about the handling of the case at the time (as shown in a “brilliant” documentary), and although the LA prosecutors say they’ve tried to get Polanski since, it’s been a long time without much success. And honestly, Switzerland?! Who would have thought they’d be the ones to make the arrest?

But it’s time. No one has won a Best Director Academy Award over the age of 74, and Polanski is 76. He had a nice long career of brilliant filmmaking since he raped (but not rape raped or raped) that 13-year-old girl. And he even has a film in the can, due out next year! Pierce Brosnan‘s in it!

Now, let’s come together and let jail happen. To paraphrase what Jack Nicholson said in that famous scene at the end of “Chinatown,” it’s time for you to do “as little as possible” when it comes to defending the brilliant director.

Hollywood: this is what you think of Polanski. We know, we saw it. No more standing ‘o’s, cool?:
