French Novelist Tristane Banon To Sue Dominique Strauss-Kahn For Attempted Rape

A lawyer for French novelist Tristane Banon has shared that she will file a lawsuit against former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn, accusing him of attempted rape. Just last week, Strauss-Kahn was released after the credibility of his original accuser, a Manhattan-based hotel maid, was called into question given she had lied before a grand jury.

According to Banon, the attempted rape occurred nearly ten years ago, when the then-22-year-old writer interviewed Strauss-Kahn in a Parisian apartment. The timing of Banon’s suit is important given that, in France, the statute of limitations for attempted rape is 10 years.

Banon plans to file her suit tomorrow, July 5th.

Good for her. If I recall the story right her socially (and socialist) connected mother had insisted she not report the rape since it could negatively effect the prominent socialist (and described great man) public image – what pigs. Perhaps that is more a commentary on Europe’s class culture than socialism as I’m sure its happened on the right too (Jim Baker at least though he wasn’t a politician), but it is representative of what we’ve seen from socialist societies.

Evidence is that DSK is a pig and he’s clearly a politician. To throw “socialist societies” into the mix is pretty silly. Politicians of all sorts — people of all sorts — can be pigs. Political theory is irrelevant.

I was speaking to the political ideology of the mother of the victim, insisting that because of the politics of DSK the victim shouldn’t report the crime and hinder his ‘good works’. As much as the left loves to bash the right I can’t recall an example of a leader on the right committing a serious and violent crime and because of their status as a political leader they are given a ‘pass’. Feel free to provide examples, and please provide facts.

In France this is normal, so she has no case against him.

Sorry, I misunderstood your reference. However, I think that the actions of one careerist mother don’t necessarily damn an entire school of political thought.

You’ll have to define “leader” and “right” before I can respond to the second part of your comment. Idi Amin *ate* his victims and no one said boo until he was run out of his country.

  • Just my Opinion

I hate to say this but I think these gals are unwittingly enhancing DSK’s resume
    for the President of France!

My impression is that Banon is seeing this poor hotel worker’s credibility ripped to shreds over her rape allegation against Kahn, and it sickened her so much she got right on this suit, and the attendant publicity hoping to influence the decision on prosecuting him.

I like the Idi reference, good one though I’ve no idea of his political ideology other than he was a brutal dictator. I’ve known or directly observed a number of careerist (mostly union or their flip side corporate thugs) persons, none happened to have been conservative but maybe that’s just from my experience.

She is pretty hot, so this is more believable. I never though he tried to rape the African water buffalo in his hotel room. It didn’t make any sense.

…and I will file suit against her for not trying to rape me!
    blah! Blah! BLAH!

Filing a charge from 10 years ago does not bode well for this woman. Her ulterior motives come into question.

Most opportune and again reeks of political dirty work.

Assuming DSK will be found guilty, I further assume that it is the power that corrupts or that corruption seeks power to have its way. Politics are not far away (polarization-mechanism for the masses to accumulate power in individuals, DSK has the know-how to do that) but are not the same. We need to do away with the power-distance mechanism that imho is clearly operational here. http://constructiverecollection.blogspot.com/2010/01/good-and-bad.html

The French embrace sexual escapades.  DSK hasn’t done anything that virtually every French male hasn’t done and the French women seem to enjoy every minute of it.  This is not an endorsement…simply an acknowledgement of realility.  This ‘journalist’ might have a new book to sell…who really knows what her true motives are.  Ten years is a long time to wait.

Ooh la la, Heh heh. (Note: to be read with a French accent)

According to that article thing at the tippity top of this page, it says she’s alleging *attempted* rape, not rapey rape.

No offense but if your recollection isn’t any better than your reading comprehension then she’s prolly not even a socialist either.

Right so why report the crime? 10 years later…what on her agenda, a book promotion? How accurate are her fantasies…and what it boils down to is he said-she said, no evidence? Maybe she left her recorder going during this interaction and still has the tape.  Doesn’t attempted rape have to include some physical violence or contact.  If you say, your very cute, let’s Fck to a woman, can it be called attempted rape?
