New York Times Creates E-Reader Division Just In Time For Apple Tablet
With a big Apple tablet announcement slated for Wednesday, many have speculated about the role of the New York Times in the potentially game-changing launch. Today, the paper has announced the creation of an e-reader division to be lead by general manager Yasmin Yamini.
The timing of this “Reader Applications business segment” is almost definitely not a coincidence and many Mac websites are buzzing about the announcement, including 9 to 5 Mac, who posted the following Times memo about the news:

This gives “an operational and financial home to products that offer a digital reading experience similar to the print platform” and though there’s mention of the Times Reader and Kindle by name, Apple is left out. For now. Reading in between the lines though, it sounds like a match made in heaven.
