Ron Paul Talks About The ‘Ron Paul Survival Report’ Newsletter In 1995

video

In another archival video from 1995, dug up by 22-year-old St. John’s University student Andrew Kaczynski, future presidential hopeful Ron Paul discusses his controversial newsletters to a MBA student at the University of New Mexico. “I also do an investment letter — it’s called the ‘Ron Paul Survival Report’ — which is a gold oriented newsletter. But it’s also expressing concern about surviving in this age of big government,” Paul explains.

RELATED: Flashback! Rep. Ron Paul Discussed His Newsletters With C-SPAN In 1995

Here is the full-transcript from the clip:

“I’m a physician here in Lake Jackson. I deliver babies for a living, but I also do an investment letter. It’s called the Ron Paul Survival Report and I put that out on a monthly basis. Which is a gold orientated newsletter that’s also expressing concern about surviving in this age of big government where there’s a lot taxes, a lot of regulations and attacks on our personal liberties. I was concerned about this many years ago, even in 1974 I had a lot of concern about this and advocated some of the things that they are talking about right now.”

Is Mediaite trying to do some implied lifting here for CNN?  If so, they just blew a hernia.

  • Anonymous

Was not aware he disavows any knowledge that a letter was being published under his name

want to debate whether he is an antisemite or not? debate that as a charge on its own merit & based on his statements… dragging blacks into this does not give one a automatic license to paint him as an antisemite and an equal-opportunity bigot. Two different areas of bigotry. personal view is that he is neither a racist nor an antisemite

Not being in the pocket of Israel nor promising to open the country’s collective purse to Israel does not equate to antisemitism

  • Anonymous

    dogsperm,

No one in this post called Paul an anti-semite. Why so defensive?

As Shakespeare wrote, “The Paultard doth protest too much.”

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WH3ZLMM7CUKUHUIMK4TKXW6SQE John

Proof that Ron Paul knew his newsletter existed!!!  Wait, what?  What was the point of this?

  • http://twitter.com/jtstellar htu

and you’re protesting the manner by which another is doing on behalf of his own cause.  what does that say about you?  leave shakespeare out of your posts.  it looks bad on him.

  • Anonymous

Right?  I read the headline thinking “uh oh, we’re about to see Ron Paul step in it here.”  Then I watched the clip…nothing.

Mediaite:  What was the point of posting this?

  • Anonymous

He merely asked a question…why IS he protesting so much?   And nothing wrong with using shakespeare if it fits.

  • Anonymous

Not sure why they used this particular clip, but if they used other documents this would be damning for Ron Paul.     In the other documents, it mentions his views about African Americans and shows a  profound bigotry there.    It could explain why he’s so much against Big Government, since it was government that ended the Jim Crow era in the south.     Many bigots of that era shouted about “states rights” because they objected to the federal government interferring with their way of life.    Even Ronald Reagan opposed the Civil Rights movement.     Civil Rights marchers were considered communist inspired radicals that needed to just get a job….hmmmm, sounds familiar.     Perhaps Paul still has a sour feel in his stomach about the successes of the movement?     Regardless, Paul’s son also stated that government should not have stepped in to end Jim Crow because that was states business.     Even though Paul’s son  said that Jim Crow laws were wrong, he never mentioned how it would have ended without government involvement.

  • Pablo

This is definitely a Zionist plot.

  • http://www.facebook.com/andrew.sappington Andrew Sappington

In the video Ron Paul is promoting his newsletters.  He made millions of dollars off the newsletters, now he claims he never wrote them or even read them.  Paul is a liar. Just like most politicians out there.

  • Dead_Air

He’s known about this for 10+ years.  Either he is a effing idiot for allowing his name to be associated with this, or he is a goddamn liar.  Which one is it?  Either way it shows a lack of savvy on his part.

Besides these obvious issues, since he has known about it for so long, he should be able to go back and figure out which of his ‘ghostwriters’ wrote this (unless of course there is no ‘ghostwriter,)  and that person should be exposed.

If you think about it though, the most disturbing thing is the fact that these comments are spread across a period of time, not just one isolated newsletter, and no one raised a red flag to Ron Paul, or if they did he chose to ignore it.

  • http://twitter.com/jtstellar htu

why did you protest beating your wife?  oh i forget, you were merely stating them to be untrue.  but why so defensive?  there is nothing wrong with it.  after all, you did beat your wife (or husband).  people express themselves as if coming back from an interview with god.  “there is nothing with what i think isn’t wrong, because i say so”  “and there’s nothing with [proceed to voice opinion B] either”.  hey, just “merely” pointing out the idiocy.  strange habit of posting opinions as facts there days.  i “merely” applied his own standard of judgment against him.  you apparently thinks this is about judgment and protesting.. go back and read the line of reasoning again, if you have any to speak of.

This is encouraging, to read so much anti-Ron Paul propaganda and dirty journalism on Ron Paul. It tells me that Ron Paul is standing on the toes of the most corrupt regime we have had in decades, and they are doing EVERYTHING to make him go away. Washington DC with its incestuous relationship with global corporate oligarchy and corporate-owned media has been lying to the American public at every turn while making the American public pay their own abuse.

It’s time to wake up, take responsibility as individuals for part of this “cleanup operation”, and contribute our attention and our energy in helping guys like Ron Paul wipe up this toxic spill of corruption and graft in DC.

It’s a good thing to see this concerted effort to damage Ron Paul, because it proves we are on the RIGHT path.

  • Anonymous

People who can’t find common ground with Ron Paul are either capitalizing on the existing system and don’t want to give up the perks, or perhaps have an encapsulated sense of reality and see REAL change as a personal threat.

And of course, those on the inside track fear losing their ill-gotten fortunes under a Ron Paul White House.

  • Anonymous

Your twisted logic is confussing.     Knute’s post just asked a question, “why so defensive?”   The former post did seem defensive to me also and that’s the reason for my response.     You can’t say that if one asks a question that it would be the same as a defensive posture from the former post, you’re mixing apples and oranges….capish, sarge?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LDO6LIQBI2JQ4Q5MWLWBKGKSJY bensanity

Come on Pablo you’re better than this. Bilderberg is real, look it up. How else could anyone give Rick Perry money ($18 million to be exact) or consider him a “serious candidate.”

  • Pablo

Of course they are! And they drugged and brainwashed Ron Paul back in 1995. Those bastards are clever. Also, the Zionists.

  • Pablo

What part is the propaganda? Is it the stuff Ron Paul said or the stuff Ron Paul said? Or is it the stuff it just looks like Ron Paul said?

  • Pablo

I can find about 85% common ground with Ron Paul, and about 15% batshit crazy.

  • Anonymous

So, I’ll assume you’re buying the racism stuff? have you put any serious time into doing your own research, or are you ordering off the menu given you by media?  Like you said below, you’re in for 85%… why not go the rest of the way?

If you were in for 40%, I’d agree with you, but to be behind anyone for 85% in this world of political scumbags and liars is worth further research, wouldn’t you say?

Put your 15% on the table…

  • Anonymous

Ok Pablo, put your cards on the table… details please. We’ve heard all the easy-out, “batshit crazy” slams, but NADA when it comes to details..  Lay it out.. splain the 15% without the word bat or shit.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WH3ZLMM7CUKUHUIMK4TKXW6SQE John

Made millions?  Did you get that bit of information from a second hand blog post like Hotair.com or do you have any proof?

  • Pablo

That depends on what the 15% is.

  • Pablo

You really need it explained to you again? First, the conspiracy theories. Second, the utter naivete when it comes to radical Islam and the countries it controls. Third, the Israel hatred.

Then we have these newsletters which were indisputably published for sale under his name, for which he will neither accept nor assign any responsibility. Either he wrote them, and he’s sick in the head, or he let someone else write them and put them out under his name without his knowledge, in which case he’s an idiot, or he knew damn well what was being published under his name, which means that he might as well have written them.  Where’s your money on that topic?

  • shonangreg

“I put that out on a monthly basis…” Ron Paul “puts out” the newsletter. It is in his name. No one esle signs any of the articles which are sometimes written in first person. It was obviously presented as Ron Paul’s words, yet Ron Paul didn’t read what he was putting out?

We give Ron Paul too much credit to believe he could be so irresponsible. And if he was that irresponsible, why are you defending him? Libertarianism must be bigger than Ron Paul, or it is doomed as well.

  • Anonymous

Certainly it does, but you can’t deny that any candidate worth 85% of your support in this slimy political market is worth more research and attention. I can’t muster 10-20% with anyone else.

Ron Paul begins with honesty, whether we like his opinion or not. Even this racist stuff he’s being attacked with. I’ve listened to enough other Ron Paul speeches and read enough of his articles over the years to understand that he’s not a racist.

One thing for sure, he knows that our government’s method of handling integration of the races, since post-Civil War, was nothing more than pandering for political support, just like it is today with illegals coming across the border. It wasn’t about honoring any individual’s sovereignty. It’s been about staying in office and buying votes from a new group of “constituents” with entitlements (when voting rights were granted), not about helping anybody establish their own personal success and freedom. Ron Paul talks often about this, so when I read all this tripe about his racist mentality, I have to assume that who ever is writing the article is either willfully ignorant to his true position or has an agenda of their own.

    That’s where the propaganda starts.

    So, Pablo… what’s the 15% all about?

  • Anonymous

I need it explained AFTER you go back and listen to Ron Paul’s thought process. Israeli hatred? That’s an easy escape from an honest conversation on the Middle East, and you know it. We have been censored from honest dialogue through the “anti-semite” political correctness indoctrination. I don’t know how old you are, but I saw that crap happening when I was in my 20′s.

If you think Israel gets carte blanche in the world above all other countries via biblical writings, then it needs to be put on the table so AMERICA, the land of “religious freedom”, can discuss the issue rather than be censored into compliance with one religion’s position.

If this is going to be a religious election for the Republican party in 2012, the practical side of our political relationship still needs addressing. I’m not anti-semite, I’m not Muslim, I’m not Atheist… but I AM anti-bullcrap.

Ron Paul is the most ethical, moral, honest and dependable candidate on the Republican side, yet here we are with unethical, immoral and totally undependable Evangelical / NeoCon candidates getting pushed in front of him in order to NOT discuss Israel’s corruption right along with everyone else’s. The conspiracy theories? that’s a nice George Orwell word for “we don’t want to talk about that”. Psychological Operations are part of most every government’s budget… if you deny that, it will end up eating your lunch.

Israel is not more important than America for most Americans.. You might not agree, you might want to label us Heathens.. That’s your business, but this conversation about corruption and religious monopoly in the Republican Party is going to take place.

Ron Paul’s the truest Christian in the bunch… so what’s up with the hatred he gets? Smells like major hypocrisy to me.

    Racist? Bull crap…

So, that’s the 15%?  Sounds more like 0.5% in validity.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LDO6LIQBI2JQ4Q5MWLWBKGKSJY bensanity

Well I can’t help the willfully blind/ignorant. But Zionism is alive and real. The  existence of the state of Israel should be proof enough for you, but just look at some of the online literature written by Jews debating the different schisms within the Zionist movement.

  • Pablo

    I know! I’m a Zionist!

  • Pablo

Are you going to tell me which of the three options you subscribe to regarding the newsletters?

And his honesty? He rails against earmarks, then stacks bills full of them, then votes against them so he can say he’s against earmarks while making sure he brings home the bacon. That’s not what I call ethical.

All of that said, if he’s the nominee, I’ll hold my nose and vote for him which is more than I can say for Gingrich or Romney. What I won’t do is worship him.

  • Anonymous

I don’t have much of an opinion on the newsletters. I’m going on his performance as a Congressman, a honest man with ethics and morals, a faithful husband of 50 years and what I’ve read and listened to on his positions over the last twenty years regarding individual liberty and sovereignty.

He has spoken directly to the black community over the years, and my opinion is that if the focal point of this “attack” is based on those newsletters, then the news is compartmentalized for someone’s agenda rather than giving Ron Paul full scrutiny. Upon FULL scrutiny, the public would realize that he’s not racist by any stretch of the imagination. The current head of the NAACP said himself that Ron Paul is not racist, in fact quite the opposite.

So, if someone who truly wants to find the truth doesn’t do his or her own due diligence, then there must another issue getting in the way. That’s corruption on a personal level, not seeking the truth for fear of finding it.

I believe that this racist attack is not about racism, it’s about Israel. I also know that those who place Israel above our own country don’t want to openly have the dialog in public. It would be much easier to destroy Ron Paul’s candidacy through a “distractive” issue like racism rather than openly debate our foreign policy as it relates to Israel.

If we had that debate publicly, I believe that Ron Paul would gain popularity because no matter what religious issues surround Israel, she as a country is still a political ally and as an ally, Israel has responsibilities to us just like any other country. This morbid fear that Ron Paul is planning to desert Israel is unfounded, but again, it’s easier to call him an anti-semite and an Israel-hater than to have an honest discussion about it so America can have a say too.

If we’re going to start pointing out racists in politics, you better have about 15 arms with 5 hands on each..  We are swimming in racism… are you kidding me? Racism has been the most useful tool of the last 50 years.

This whole racism attack on Ron Paul is disgustingly corrupt. If you set out to prove to yourself that he is not racist rather than proving he is, it wouldn’t take you long.. Maybe 2-3 hours of research, some articles and videos.

I’m not directing this at you Pablo, but borrowing from Bill Clinton, “It’s about Israel, stupid”.

  • Anonymous

I almost forgot Pablo.. you need to google Ron Paul and earmarks. He believes that his constituents need to get some of their money back, he understands how the “system” works, and using earmarks is a way to accomplish this. He does serve his constituents… that’s why he’s called a representative.

  • Pablo

The Republican Conference agreed to eschew earmarks this session. Ron Paul was one of 4 Republican Congresscritters to submit them anyway. $398 Million for FY 2010, and $157 Million for FY 2011.

He does this and then votes against them so he can claim that he’s anti-earmark. That strikes me as cynical. It strike me as doublespeak, of which I’ve heard enough to last a lifetime. You know who’s against earmarks? John Frigging McCain. You know how you can tell? He’s NEVER asked for one.

    I hear this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWTyHbGcUQY I don’t buy it.

As for the newsletters, if you prefer to ignore the whole thing, as Paul would like everyone to do, that’s fine for you. But if you think he’s going to go through a general election without getting beaten bloody with them, or that it will be about Israel when he is, you’re mistaken.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a situation before where someone has published material under their own name and then completely disavowed it without any explanation of how that material was published under their name, for their profit. If he’s going to go forward, he’s going to have to do a better job of explaining what happened there. Blaming Zionists for them isn’t going to fly.

  • Anonymous

Ok Pablo, let’s have an expose on Racism amongst all candidates, democrat and republican. You guys who want to use racism as a barometer for eligibility in 2012 will have an empty stage.

This is about Israel, it’s not about racism. Continue to follow the racist trail, and in the meantime, watch Ron Paul win in Iowa, New Hampshire, etc.

Don’t forget to hold your nose when you vote for Ron Paul, Pablo..  In the meantime, do what I suggested and educate yourself about Ron Paul “racism”.

  • Anonymous

If you are looking for Ron Paul’s “guilt” as a racist, just follow mainstream media… they’ll take you there… It’s about his foreign policy…

  • Pablo

Have you heard me say that he’s a racist? No.

You’re deflecting. That isn’t going to get Paul elected.

You know, I’d be elated to vote for Rand.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LDO6LIQBI2JQ4Q5MWLWBKGKSJY bensanity

Will you admit that Israel is an apartheid state? And that the only Palestenians allowed into Israel are those that build the mansions of the Israelites?

  • Anonymous

Peripheral, at best.  Hardly a smoking gun.

  • Anonymous

Well, I don’t personally believe this will slow Ron Paul down. Racism is used too much today as a tool, and I think it’s outlived its usefulness. It’s like anti-semitism…very overplayed, doesn’t mean much anymore because it’s been abused as a political correctness tool.  Ron Paul’s record stands a mile higher than anyone’s. Earmarks? Let’s do the plus /minus list for Ron Paul… even you are 85% behind him..

Earmarks, whether we like the way he gets money back to his constituents or not, still not enough to put him out. War, finances, the Constitution, fiat currency, corruption, huge government and walking your talk are the biggest issues. The newsletter deal will be neutralized by his documented support of minorities, opinion on how the drug war is unfairly biased against blacks, etc. There really isn’t much to choose from in digging a hole for Ron Paul. He has lots of minority support from those who understand his focus on liberty.

It’s a valiant effort by people like CNN to slime him, but as the campaign progresses people will see that he’s not what they are trying to portray. The important thing here is that mainstream media is known to be slimy and manipulative. CNN leads the pack in corruption. This may be the election where media loses all credibility, finally, as it should.

I work often in Ukraine and Russia, and our media is matching them these days in terms of blatant lies and corruption. Nobody there believes in media, and soon it will be the same here.

  • Anonymous

Ron Paul is a total moron. Anyone who thinks we should go back to the gold sandard hasn’t got a clue.

  • Anonymous

Nobody cares about this. Mediaite should explain why they shared a video about Ron Paul making sense in 1995. He never denied the newsletters existed, only that he didn’t read any of the propaganda. But since Ron Paul has an apparent endless amount of interviews, that has a college student researching it, I am still waiting for something to support any of the racist undertones the newsletters show. People that have hate within them can’t help but show it. Ron Paul has said that Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks are his hero’s and has stated that he would pardon all non-violent drug offenders, many of whom are minorities. That doesn’t add up to a hateful person. I have issues with Ron Paul. But the newsletter scandal is boring and confusing. The media should start attacking Paul on the issues, but they are afraid to because they know normal Americans would agree with what he says and his support shows it.

  • http://games-survival.com Justplaythegame

I find this interesting.. The establishment is not getting anywhere with mudslinging a good man.
His record speaks for itself..  He speaks for himself and all walks of life know it.. media paid for.. left and right are just plain scared of Ron Paul destroying their meal tickets. and they cannot find anything on this man. nothing but lies..

There isn’t any ‘damning’ evidence about Ron Paul.

“African” American would imply that the person is directly from Africa. Most aren’t.

Big Government was the cause of Jim Crow laws.. not less government. If you haven’t noticed government has progressively grown bigger every year.

Ron Paul objects to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 because of one clause that allows the government to do what they want on private property holder’s lands.

    Ronald Reagan.. Good for him.

Ron Paul has told of his support for the non-violent activists that brought an end to segregation.

“Even though Paul’s son  said that Jim Crow laws were wrong, he never mentioned how it would have ended without government involvement.”

Go through that sentence again.. and I’ll point out this for you.. -Jim Crow Laws- Government involvement.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ElricStormbringer Kyle Hitchens

The Republican Conference agreed to eschew earmarks this session.”

Good for them… that means they agree with the president’s budget choices.

“You know who’s against earmarks? John Frigging McCain. You know how you can tell? He’s NEVER asked for one. ”

Who’s never.. ever.. been to congress or senate or knows what earmarks even are.

“As for the newsletters, if you prefer to ignore the whole thing, as Paul would like everyone to do, that’s fine for you.”

Or you can make it your central reason for not supporting someone like you are. The fact of the matter is they haven’t been ignored at all. Hell, I’ve read them all and I’ve compared them to what Paul has said and written. They aren’t his writings nor are the things that were said in the Report even done by him (the vote against MLK day should be your red flag here.. because he voted for it.)

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a situation before where someone has published material under their own name and then completely disavowed it without any explanation of how that material was published under their name, for their profit. ”

The fact of the matter is it was explained.. easily too.. He was working as a doctor his editor at the time had ghostwritters who submitted the work and it was printed. You’re acting like things have never happened without the head person in-charge’s knowledge.

“If he’s going to go forward, he’s going to have to do a better job of explaining what happened there. Blaming Zionists for them isn’t going to fly.”

    He didn’t.. end of story.

  • Pablo

Of course not. Why would I “admit” a falsehood?

  • Pablo

Who’s never.. ever.. been to congress or senate or knows what earmarks even are.

If that’s the best you’ve got, I’m not wasting my time with you.

  • Pablo

No, the important thing here is whether Ron Paul is a worthy and electable candidate for POTUS. I understand that Ron Paul is a patriot, pure as the driven snow and utterly principled, and that any suggestion to the contrary, no matter how fact-based it may be, is a media creation motivated by fear of his righteousness and a preference for Israel over America. But I’m not buying it. We’re all flawed, politicians more than most, and Ron Paul is not immune to that fact of human nature.

  • Pablo

Anyone who thinks we can endlessly print money and expect it to retain value hasn’t got a clue.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1190134026 Barry Dalton

Why isn’t anyone talking about the FRAUD that Ron Paul has admitted to?

This must be the same kind of blind greed that permitted Bernie Madoff to rip off his trusted followers.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1190134026 Barry Dalton

Ron Paul was asked about this directly.

He said that he does not remember.

So he admits he has no clue about his own finances. How are we going to trust him with the U.S. Treasury?

He also admitted to defrauding his newsletter subscribers.

But none of his worshippers seem to care about that.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1190134026 Barry Dalton

    Because Ron Paul committed fraud.

    This video clearly shows intent.

Paul was clearly representing that the newsletters were from HIM.

And yet now he admits he never WROTE them and he never READ them and does not KNOW what was in them.

    That’s fraud. Case closed.

Ron Paul should be in a cell next to Bernie Madoff.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1190134026 Barry Dalton

The people who enforced racist policies, including Jim Crow laws, were mostly civilian. Not government officials.

If someone believes Civil Rights laws should be rolled back and given to the states to “decide”, well, that’s just not good enough. Why should my state have the “right” to decide if private businesses can discriminate?

If a private business wants to barter with chickens and pigs, FINE. But if they want to use government-issued dollar bills, then a Black person’s money is as good as anyone else’s and it’s immoral and unconstitutional to deny them service.

And by the way, Ron Paul is a hukster who admits to defrauding his followers by selling them phony newsletters that he himself did not write, read or know about their content.

Now I’m going to let him decide what laws are ok with him?

  • http://twitter.com/Stanolicoc Stanolicoc

Politics are ugly.  I’m sure Ron Paul knew all this stuff was going to be thrown at him.  At least he has the courage to fight for his own convictions.  In every instance thus far, I would say Dr. Paul has responded to these accusations with humility and discretion.  He disavows these views.  That’s the point everyone is missing here.  Does Ron Paul hold some personality traits that were common to males growing up in Texas in the 40′s and 50′s?  Of course.  The hypocrisy of the American public is revolting.  Racism is ingrained in the culture of this country.  I heard it from my grandfather, and I’m only 31.  Who are we kidding?  It’s just sad to watch us act like children.

  • Anonymous

I watched a video recently of Bill Clinton speaking at Senator Byrd’s funeral, telling the audience how Mr. Byrd had changed his ways from being racist in his earlier days.
Clinton was basically asking the crowd to understand that people can change their thinking and paradigms. Even if Ron Paul had some racist feelings 20 years ago, the level of attack on him does is not in proportion. I’m sure Bill Clinton wouldn’t be asking for this understanding for Ron Paul’s “enlightenment”. Of course he’s flawed like the rest of us, but there are agendas at play here.

I will not vote for any other candidate in any other party. If we had to grade all these candidates on a scale of one to ten, in terms of the good they would do or the level of damage they would do, Ron Paul would score the highest in my book. We don’t have much time left to do the right thing with our presidential choices. We’ve been led down a narrow path, and there will be a dead end if we don’t turn around soon.

  • http://www.facebook.com/andrew.sappington Andrew Sappington

Reason Magazine ( a libertarian magazine) : Yet a subsequent report by Reason found that Ron Paul & Associates,
the defunct company that published the newsletters and which counted
Paul and his wife as officers, reported an income of nearly $1 million
in 1993 alone. If this figure is reliable, Paul must have earned
multiple millions of dollars over the two decades plus of the
    newsletters’ existence.

  • http://www.facebook.com/andrew.sappington Andrew Sappington

I’m sorry but normal Americans don’t want to get rid of Social Security and Medicare, and that exactly what Paul wants to do. Nor do most Americans want to get rid of the Department of Education or the Clean Air Act or the many safeguards that Paul wants to end.  Most of Paul’s supporters don’t dig deep into Paul’s convictions, most just like that he wants to legalize drugs and end the stupid wars.  But Ron Paul wants to take our country back to 1900 and that is a scary prospect for everybody that is not a rich white male.
