Senate Drama: Al Franken Shuts Down Joe Lieberman, Angers John McCain

video

frankenThe Senate is debating Health Care reform this week, and tensions are running high. Passions are fueling a debate so spirited, that one might confuse the normally boring U.S. Senate for the far more entertaining British Parliament. Today, Senator Joe Lieberman asked for an additional minute for the floor, but was denied by Senator Al Franken. This appeared to infuriate Senator John McCain. High drama indeed!

Minnesotans must be soooooo proud; electing a comedian, duggie to the Senate who shows no respect for a senior member of the body. What a clymer.

  • ImNotBlue ImNotBlue says:

Remember… respect is only needed for those who agree with you. Thanks Al! You are the true embodiment of the nastiest elements of the liberal left. Liberals aren’t all rude and disrespectful… good thing Franken can provide those “other” folks a voice.

    Ugh.

It must be hard for McCain a senator for 20 years a war hero and has given everything of himself for this country to even take this goofball serious.
Al Franken in any hollywood movie, would be the first one dead or the one in the war movies that becomes a trader that gives up his own men and country to save himself.

    Franken is an ass hat

Senator Franken is a perfect example of DFL “Minnesota Nice”.

If Al Franken isn’t smiling tonight, then I sure am.

Good for you, Al. Lieberman is a self-serving twit, and nearly everyone in the Democratic party is totally disgusted with him and his recent antics (especially saying that a program he proposed would have to be removed for him to vote for the bill). The Senator from Connecticut’s Health Insurance company needs to be silenced and rendered irrelevant by the progressives who actually want to do something to help Americans. Bravo, Al!

Al Franken is a Harvard Grad. while John McCain graduated 87 at what, the Air Force Academy? Franken has already smacked down several other idiots in Congress and Joe is just the latest. While enjoyed it very much let’s get a few facts straight. I’ll help out Colby.
    From ThinkProgress:
“A Senate staffer tells ThinkProgress that the reason Franken cut off Lieberman is because Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-NV) office has been asking all presiding chairs to enforce the 10-minute rule for both sides. Franken was simply following the direction of leadership.”

As I’ve said, I still enjoyed Franken telling Droopy that it was time for him to stop talking. Getting McCain to display that same cranky old man meltdown he’s notorious for was priceless. He squished them both like the bugs that they are. Both have stayed too long at the dance!

At least Franken was smart enough to get a good education. He’s transitioned nicely while lunes like Dennis Miller and Victoria Jackson are basically dead. What do these 2 has beens do for a living? I’ve seen clips of them on fox shows which is pretty sad.

  • MartiniShark MartiniShark says:

Well for one, Miller has a radio show, 250 stations strong, which was something Franken failed at with AA.

This kind of action shows exactly how full-of-crap hypocritical the Dems are as a body. They heap scorn on the Republicans for not being “Big Tent”, yet when one of their own dares take a stand he becomes a pariah instantly in their eyes.

  • Keeva Keeva says:

The rules of the Senate are the rules of the Senate. The same rules that allow the filibuster and the 60 vote requirement for cloture also limit the time of debate.

Both sides are full of crap and hypocritical. In September Lieberman told the Hartford Courant (on video) he would support a 55 plus buy in to Medicare. It was basically his idea. Today he was arguing AGAINST it. His own idea.

Would anyone like to see Democrat John Murtha? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywgUCdefSW8

It isn’t the minority separating itself from the process like the Democrats did with Bush.. it is systemic of a way of thinking liberal progressives EMPLOY.

  • scristanti scristanti says:

it was rude. and I have watched c-span for years and have never seen anyone NO. Talk about arrogant, but then we all know if there was a recount of the whole state, he would have lost, he is a joke in MN.

Well, here we go again! True to form, roxie is fetishizing high-falutin’ diplomas as if possession of them was a prerequisite to being an elected official (it’s not, thank the founders).

However, her respect for a highly educated person vanishes into thin air when there is an “R” before his or her name. When she recently praised the intellect of Rhodes Scholar Rachel Maddow (the lightly viewed MSNBC host…er, hostess) saying her PoliSci doctorate from Oxford disqualified her from falling for “GOP propaganda,” I countered with Rhodes Scholar and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, who turned down scholarship offers from Harvard Med and Yale Law to attend Oxford, earning (among other Ivy League degrees) a Master of Letters in PoliSci.

Her response to that information? Calling Governor Jindal a “dolt” and “Howdy Doodie.” (And it’s not the first time, either.)

Getting McCain to display that same cranky old man meltdown he’s notorious for was priceless.

Oh, yeah, roxie — it’s a good thing that guys like Al Franken are in the Senate, and not another “cranky” guy who is prone to “meltdowns.”

I mean, Al Franken would never do something like go off on a profane rant at a Howard Dean fundraiser, or run off the stage at a fundraiser into the audience to tackle a disruptor and wrestle him to the ground, or make a joke to a sign-language interpreter for President Bush about signing to Al Qaeda members lurking at the 2004 RNC convention how to assassinate him.

But even if Al Franken DID do all those things, in spite of all of it, we know he’s really, really, really smart, because…well, um…oh, yeah! Because he can draw a map of the USA from memory!

Yessiree, Al Franken’s no “Howdy Doodie.” He’s a Yankee Doodler Dandy!

  • Ted Ted says:

Most of you numb nuts can’t stand it that Al Franken is a US Senator while you flip burgers or watch soaps all day. Chris Jones – How many hours did you think about it before coming up with that snappy retort? Dumb ass.

  • Duc du Berry Duc du Berry says:

Al needs a broom to sweep out the dusty, fusty old men of the senate. Time to go boys…

  • ondine ondine says:

Al was just on his nerves because it is exaspering to listen someone to debate a bill you have not read. All minds are made up, The rest is circus. LIES…………………………

I’m glad someone found a way, albeit small, to tell Traitor Joe to shut his mouth. The slack-jawed look of shock on Traitor Joe’s face was priceless as he managed to emit that insecure sneer, “Really!”. Yes, REALLY, Joe. It’s personal now, for millions of families, and every subtle slight like Al’s today will be welcomed by them. Look for more of it.

  • Hypnomama Hypnomama says:

Franken was a loser as a comedian. Nothing’s changed. He’s still not funny and he’s still a loser. Read his body language. It’s a tell all. And for the record, there are thousands of stupid people with degrees wandering the universe. Conversely, there are thousands of people who are self educated and have common sense – sans degrees. We would do well not to assume that a college degree guarantees intelligence or common sense. Senator McCain, though not one of my favorites in the political arena, is a hero. What has Mr. Franken done that is noteworthy?

  • MikeLI631 MikeLI631 says:

He has a lot of work to do, on his Image.

  • Ted Ted says:

Hypnomama – What has Franken done that is noteworthy? That’s a tough one, well lets start with Harvard, SNL, author, radio, US Senator. And you?

PS – Don’t fall for that body language pseudo science bs. I don’t know about the universe, but there are indeed plenty of stupid people with college degrees right here on planet Earth. You don’t happen to have one of those…do you?

  • Jelperman Jelperman says:

Dungeonmaster McCain is just a lying, two-faced douche nozzle.

He personally cut off Senator Dayton back in 2002.

  • Nachi Nachi says:

Twas lovely. Just lovely. The look on The Runt’s face. “Ace” McShame has no right being “angry” at anyone. Under any circumstances. His “hero card” is wearing thin. Finally.

BBC’s Sian Williams Would Read News Naked, If Allowed

Ah, Europe. With their laxer policies from everything from drinking to nudity, who wouldn't want to live there? But it's not all free-wheeling nudists Frenchmen all bicycles: BBC Breakfast host Sian Williams said she would read the news naked, if that's what it get her out of paying over $9k in taxes that she was trying to write off as expenses. But both her bosses and a tax tribunal said nay.

Is anyone in the media not talking about Glenn Beck? It's clear we here at Mediaite certainly spend a lot of time doing so, but it would appear the rest of the world is catching up. Are they ever. Just take my morning media consumption as an example.
