Soundbite: Beck And Limbaugh Are A ‘Story Of Remarkable Volume And Utter Weakness’

s-GLENN-BECK-RUSH-LIMBAUGH-largeSo what is the theme of our history lesson? It is a story of remarkable volume and utter weakness. It is the story of media mavens who claim to represent a hidden majority but who in fact represent a mere niche — even in the Republican Party. It is a story as old as “The Wizard of Oz,” of grand illusions and small men behind the curtain.

The New York TimesDavid Brooks on the fall and rise of right wing media stars like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh. Continued below.

But this is not merely a story of weakness. It is a story of resilience. For no matter how often their hollowness is exposed, the jocks still reweave the myth of their own power. They still ride the airwaves claiming to speak for millions. They still confuse listeners with voters. And they are aided in this endeavor by their enablers. They are enabled by cynical Democrats, who love to claim that Rush Limbaugh controls the G.O.P. They are enabled by lazy pundits who find it easier to argue with showmen than with people whose opinions are based on knowledge. They are enabled by the slightly educated snobs who believe that Glenn Beck really is the voice of Middle America.

This is a total b.s. piece by a pseudo conservative.

If the candidates had listened to the talk show hosts (who are in touch with real Americans) then Republicans wouldn’t have lost.

It was Rush and others who were saying: Secure The Borders. A winning argument.

It was Rush and others who complained about out of control spending (but of course that was just dimes and nickles compared to whats being blown by Obama and Democrats). They didn’t listen.

Rush and the others were against the bailouts. Once again–who didn’t listen?!!

Rush and the others wanted to hammer home Obama and his terrorist ties, Rev Wright, that he is a extreme liberal masquerading as a moderate (they wouldn’t listen).

And it was the VP that Rush picked that almost put McCain (that RHINO) over the top. McCains people sandbagged her because she was bringing in the dollars, she was bringing in bigger crowds than Obama. She even beat Biden in the debates (when he had had over 30 practice ones in the last 2 years) and she had had none. Hell, it took Fred Thompson at least 6 months before he started hitting his stride (too late).

The one mistake they made is not getting behind the one candidate that had a great choice of killing Obama in the debates and winning big time– Gov Huckabee.

But its the right wing opinion hosts that have taken down the grand “messiah” and just clobbered him. His approval ratings at this point stink. He has the 60 votes and they still can’t get anything done. So its pretty stupid of David Brooks to write such an assine piece.

David Brooks column is so true. One of the best columns I’ve read in a long time. I loved the way it was unfolded bit by bit.

Talk radio and Fox News has basically made Republicans cater to them and their opinions and concerns instead of mainstream Americans. It’s pushed the Republican party into a corner. Just look at how Ron Paul, which arguably represents a considerable future demographic of Republicans, is shunned and mocked at.

Of course, had the GOP listened to Rush, Hannity, Beck, et al, it never would have nominated John McCain.

By the time he was nominated, he was dead meat to the “true believers”. And they failed to show up at the polls, costing Republicans numerous House and Senate seats.

So Rush and Sean and all the rest are reaping the rewards of their own hard-right speech wkith an overwhelmingly Democratic-controlled Congress.

On the other hand, President Obama might shake up his staff and actually begin to accomplish something (anything!) before the perception grows that he is a latter-day Jimmy Carter — nice man, good words, but no results.

Blaming every day’s bad news on the previous eight years is getting to be pretty tiresome — both from the White House and the President’s media apologists.

LMAO!!! 40% of this country are conservatives. Obama is at 50% or below. Republicans are running ahead of Democrats on the generic ballot.

The Democrats have catered to the lunatic fringe of 21% of this country. That’s why they can’t get anything done. They control the House and have 60 votes in the Senate and NOTHING. Bupkis! Why? Because mainstream American’s don’t want Obama’s out of control spending. Mainstream Americans don’t want a take over of health care. Mainstream Americans want to keep this country safe. Funny how the patriot act did its job with the latest capture of terrorists. Even the latest polls show that Americans are pro life more than at any other time in recent history and its over 50%.

    Liberals have lost everywhere.

Same reason why CNN and MSNBC can’t get any viewers and nobody listens to Air Head America.

2010 going to be a great time for Republicans. The Revolution happens!

Maybe Bobo or those commenting here can square these two statements from bobo:

” Just months after the election and the humiliation, everyone is again convinced that Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity and the rest possess real power. And the saddest thing is that even Republican politicians cometo believe it. They mistake media for reality. They pre-emptively surrender to armies that don’t exist.”

    and

“They are enabled by cynical Democrats, who love to claim that Rush Limbaugh controls the G.O.P. ”

So Democrats are cynical when they claim EXACTLY what bobo is arguing?

This is similar to the dirty hippies who claimed for years that there were no weapons of mass destruction and that the war was built on false pretenses. So while loser dbags like Captain IhateAmerica were mast urbating in their mom’s basements to Toby Keith songs and visions of getting their salad tossed by Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin, the adults were taking over Congress and the presidency from the children.

So while the right continues to think that the bluster of idi ots like Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Savage, et. al. actually means anything other than more losses for the Republicans, we’ll continue to act like adults tasked with fixing the mess that Alfred E. Bush created.

So I guess this means there’s no need for a ‘fairness doctrine’ or ‘localism’.
