Tucker Carlson Laughs In The Face Of Gawker’s Page Views

“I keep reading all of these Nick Denton memos for Gawker…these ferocious memos to writers where it’s like ‘get a million pageviews this week or you’re fired!’ Maybe we’ll have to do that! But it’s not my personality at all.”

Tucker Carlson, four days before the launch of his new website, which boasts a staff of 21 editors and reporters, has yet to lose his idealism about the Internet! It’s a lovely thing to behold.

And, all things being equal, maybe Tucker will make it work (and we certainly wish him the best) and manage to get the traffic his backers and advertisers need to survive without resorting to an abundance of slideshows and SEO friendly headlines (and if not, welcome to the Internet!). In the meantime, I think he may want to reread Denton’s latest, which actually appears to be valuing the original over the tantalizing as a way to succeed in this new traffic world.

I was surprised to learn that “Tucker Carlson” is a euphemism in the secretarial pool for certain feminine hygiene products, as in, “Say, can I borrow a Tucker Carlson?”. However, I have generally find him to be delightfully quirky, to the point of being somewhat charmingly erratic. He is knowledgeable, really very knowledgeable, and if his logic is sometimes fatally flawed, well that can be awfully endearing, can’t it? I wish him the best, but I fear this may be a doomed venture. His philosophical appeal tends to be to a conservative base which I fear cannot understand his sometimes burdensome prose, will not appreciate his dry and somber irony and will become dizzy as his humorous barbs and treacherous witticisms fly over their little pointed, tin foil-covered heads. I should ass that I sometimes find myself in agreement with Tucker, but most often his Quixotesque search for a like-minded conservative a bit tedious.

Aw, don’t worry, Your Highness. You just did.

If Tucker has been reading Nick’s memos, then at least he has an idea of how to proceed.

Too many Huffington Post-alike websites popping up right now. Not really sure what they’re going to do in order to stand out from each other.

@m: If his is anything like the others, he’ll just link to the same things as everyone else.

Tucker does laugh. That’s because he has always been a clown!
