Whitney Houston Dead At 48

Video

Pop star Whitney Houston has died at 48-years-old, according to The Associated Press.

Houston’s publicist, Kristin Foster, broke the news of Houston’s passing to the AP, but thus far, no cause of death has been revealed.

From CBS:

Whitney Houston, who ruled as pop music’s queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, has died. She was 48.

… News of Houston’s death came on the eve of music’s biggest night — the Grammy Awards. It’s a showcase where she once reigned, and her death was sure to case a heavy pall on Sunday’s ceremony. Houston’s longtime mentor Clive Davis was to hold his annual concert and dinner Saturday; it was unclear if it was going to go forward.

At her peak, Houston the golden girl of the music industry. From the middle 1980s to the late 1990s, she was one of the world’s best-selling artists. She wowed audiences with effortless, powerful, and peerless vocals that were rooted in the black church but made palatable to the masses with a pop sheen.

… She had the he perfect voice, and the perfect image: a gorgeous singer who had sex appeal but was never overtly sexual, who maintained perfect poise.

     So very sad but true.

Rumor is Ray J found her in a hotel. Celebrities need to deal with their demons and not be ashamed of therapy.

    R.I.P. Whitney Houston
I don’t remember anyone I know who didn’t like you…which is weird when you think about it.
See you on the other side milady,if there is such a thing.

    A true Patriot.

Man, if she could have just given up the drugs. Like Rush Limbaugh.

  • Verreauxii

True. Excessively air-burshed. Drugs took a toll on her and she became quite haggardly-looking for a 48y/o black woman. NYDN seems to have a more recent photo of her from a few days ago. RIP. :(

    Not true…according to RayJ’s publicist.

I’m glad you devoted your weekend to CPAC. I didn’t. I just watched her speech and that was it. However, this is a Whitney Houston thread. Keep up. :)

  • Verreauxii

Mediaite, please include her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner during one of the superbowls in the early 90′s. It was a classic and considered one of the best EVER!

  • Mo Fokker

Ahh, I was hoping for some anecdotes from you about the conference.

  • News Of The World

Hearing that rendition of the National Anthem again just gives me chills. Beautiful.

Hahahaha and now Al Sharpton has weighed in.

You must know links are not allowed because otherwise you would link to the article.

    P.S.
Is the prohibition against links a common practice on blogs?

  • Mo Fokker

Crap. Now you are getting your Rays mixed up.

Actually there was quite a big huff in the 90s where African Americans felt Whitney had “sold out” (by downplaying her R&B roots) and trying to appeal to “white people”.  It was all a bunch of crap, IMO – her music was in a class of it’s own, and wasn’t made for “black” people or “white” people.
Regardless, she was an exceptional talent and was one of music’s ultimate stars.

  • Anonymous

Very sad.  I have been waiting for her to find the greatest love of all and I don’t think she ever found it.

  • Verreauxii

On some. I know the Washington Slimes page does not allow linking and neither does the National Journal site if I recall correctly. It’s so freaking dumb. How are we supposed to converse w/o external linking? I wish they will change this odious policy, soon! Before, they used to have a cap of 3 links per post. It was annoying, but still better than ZERO linking.

  • Mo Fokker

I agree.  Now I suspect we will be seeing entire articles from the American Thinker blog instead of a paragraph and a link.

This rendition is much better because it was actually live.. She mimed the  Super Bowl performance .. RIP..

  • Anonymous

God bless Whitney. I feared this day. Please, Lord All Mighty, give her the peace she couldn’t find here on earth. I will always remember her singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Best ever. I will miss you sweet Whitney.

  • Anonymous

Not at all. The report changed. Ray J and her were back on dating.

Once again, your obsession with me is creepy.

    Stalk TMZ, not me.

  • Verreauxii

What’s funny about that? Sharpton is immersed into the black community. He used to be road manger for James Brown back in the day (so music means something to him) and like it or not, is regarded highly among the AA community. He has an audience that would love to hear his 2 pennies on this tragic event. Don’t forget Sharpton eulogized the last great black musician to pass away.

    Maybe you can stfu now.

  • Verreauxii

I get information from many sources. I read a lot. That’s how you stay informed on issues. I comment on any issue the very same reason you comment here. Why would you ask such a stupid question?

I troll? How many times have you been banned from this site? You have almost 2000 comments on Mediate alone on this “new” handle. Now, tell me again, who has lots of “free” time, trolling?

  • Anonymous

     Sharpton is a joke period.

  • Anonymous

Whitney was and will always be an amazing singer. She had her troubles. There is no reason to make her a martyr. Both her and Michael had their oddities and instead of getting true help, did themselves in.

Dr. Drew already stated that there was no way that she should’ve been doing any work and should’ve stayed in recovery.

  • Verreauxii

Precisely. That’s what they don’t get. People will just C&P entire articles now within their posts.

  • Mo Fokker

I think we may need to organize a boycott.

  • Verreauxii

Your narcissism knows no bounds. Do you really think you’re that important for people to “stalk” or “obsess” over you? Get a grip, lady. You do this everyday. If you do not want to be responded to, don’t post on public websites.

  • Ben

Fu** Dr. Drew..who cares wtf the hack said.
Like I said,I’m really glad you’re enjoying yourself…good for you.

    Now fu** off.

  • Anonymous

Getting information from multiple sources has nothing to do with commenting on a site. I comment on three sites, period.  That doesn’t hinder my ability to read other sources. I choose to not troll on other sites. You apparently feel the need to troll many sites.

If you truly cared about having real conversations, you wouldn’t be talking on the internet to people. You would be out in the community, causing real change and depth of ideas. When I was actually involved in politics, there was never any time for comments on sites. Political gurus and volunteers have no knowledge of sites like these.

I was banned one time. I never said anything that was bannanble. Colby took offense to what I was saying. Pure and simple. I’ve never been banned from any site but Huff Po.  It was then I realized how silly it was to troll a site of dissenting opinion.

I’ve always had this handle. I’ve always only had two Disqus accounts. Continue trolling.

  • Anonymous

What a shame. A beautiful and amazingly talented lady.

  • Meh

Crackheads die.  It’s what they do best.

  • Verreauxii

Of course it does. Me commenting on OTHER sites is no different from you commenting on this site. It just means your readership, and consequently, your mental output is limited. You admit to being BANNED from this site before for trolling. I have never been banned….from ANY site I comment on. Now stick to doing what you are known for.

P.S. Notice it is YOU who started trolling this WH thread by mocking Al Sharpton.

  • Anonymous

Perhaps you need a refresher on how internet stalking works. Mo Fokker responded to me, in a Whitney Houston thread,  about a non-Whitney Houston related subject matter.

Let me also note that I have actually been internet stalked from a couple posters on here by virtue of them merely tracking my name. Seeing as I don’t comment on many sites, I would find that creepy.

I wish to at least stay on topic. I also thought that you swore to not talk to me under my old name. Go ahead and do so.

  • AIiveStiIIKickin

Her “greatest love of all” is probably what killed her.

  • Verreauxii

Like I said, you are a narcissistic troll who has a deluded sense of self importance. Nobody “stalks” you. They just respond to your prattling…which is abundant in nature. Now, run along…little one.

P.S. I held my end of the bargain until YOU started responding to my posts again.

  • Anonymous

I admit to being banned because I told Colby to edit his articles better. Ooooh, you sure got me.

You troll online. I’ve put my talents to work in real-life situations. Big difference there Ver. It takes no mental output to operate in virtual reality. I can’t believe you just typed that.

The first troll was Mo Fokker, talking about me and CPAC. Keep up. I know it’s hard with all of your virtual reality contributions. Too funny.

  • Anonymous

She was so beautiful and talented. You always want to be optimistic and hope that people will triumph over their demons. Sadly not in this case.

Breaking news: Keith Richards officially declared a highlander

Oh Ver – Do you seriously not know the concept of internet bullying? Too funny. There is a difference in talking to someone on ONE site. It is another to follow that person to another site. Perhaps you should read articles on internet stalking or better yet, talk to legal counsel so that you don’t fall into this category.

Take for example if I followed you to the Washington Times, just for the sake of responding to you. That would be called stalking – cyber stalking. Kids have died over internet bullying. I’m surprised you’re not aware of these stories.

I never made a bargain with you. That’s the difference. You might want to figure out how contracts work while you’re looking up cyber stalking.

    Now back to Whitney.

It’s a living hell not just for the person battling the disease but for those who love them, too. I hope she is finally at peace. I’m so sorry for her family. I pray to God I never get that call or knock on the door.

Girlfriend, always remember this. When Whitney Houston passed away, the world stopped and grieved the passing of an angel who walked among mortals.
When you pass, no one will care. You’re no one special. You’ve made no mark on the world. 1000 years from now people will still know who she is and listen to her music. You will be forgotten well before ho take hour last breath.
    Think about that.

What matter would it be if I were conservative or liberal? You make no sense. Mo Fokker responded to me about a non-Whitney issue in a Whitney thread period. He is not the first to display “passionate responses” towards me on this site.

And if you don’t know me, it would be better to not comment at all to me about issues you don’t know. Wouldn’t it?

It is unfortunate that any human being dies ahead of their time, but she lived in that hollywood fantasy world of booze and drugs, she was booed off the stage in London, and was seen in the past two weeks as disoriented and obviously back on drugs. Where the hell were her family and friends? Where was the intervention. Now, everyone feels so sorry for her. It’s too late!!.

Music legend Whitney Houston died this afternoon at the age of 48.

Houston was found dead in her Beverly Hills hotel room where, according to friends of the singer, she had been “gettin her swerve on” with a man named “Jimmy Crack Corn”.

Police are not ready to declare Whitney Houston’s death a murder, but
they do consider this Jimmy Crack Corn a “person of interest”.

Ben, you are responsible for Whitney’s death. Now get back on your drugs.

    More great liberal logic:

” Singer Tony Bennett isn’t just a liberal, he’s an embarrassing liberal who says the wrong thing at the wrong time. The Hollywood Reporter passes along that at the pre-Grammy bash of record producer Clive Davis, Bennett took the news of Whitney Houston’s untimely death as an
occasion for a political statement demanding America legalize drugs like the Netherlands.

“First it was Michael Jackson, then Amy Winehouse, now, the magnificent Whitney Houston,” he began. “I’d like every person in this room to campaign to legalize drugs.”

    But it gets worse.

“Let’s legalize drugs like they did in Amsterdam,” he continued. “No one’s hiding or sneaking around corners to get it. They go to a doctor to get it.”

Yes Tony, why not say that tonight at the Grammy awards.

There’s only one problem with tossing out “stalking” like you do – the specific incidences you allege are “stalking” will not pass muster under 18 USC 875 or 47 USC 223*.

I will leave your BabyGoodling facilities, to be exercised at a law school (a la RegentsU) starting this fall, to understand why your assertions do not credibly fall under either of those laws.

    (*misdemeanor)

“Thanks for the Memories.”!  It was Bob Hope’s theme song, but Whitney’s fans should remember all of the words of the song today!  “We thank you so much.”  RIP Whitney!

She could have even had a heart attack.  After years of drug use, the body – particularly the heart, weakens.  So, over all – yes, it was drugs but it could have just been natural death as a result of drug use.

You have no clue what type of cyber stalking I’m talking about avoidswork.

Once again, you’re inserting yourself into a discussion. Epic fail.

Nowhere did Rouge talk about Houston’s age. You were responding to a point that you thought she was making that didn’t exist.

I believe you used the term MILF in another thread, for starters.

Oh please! Where’s yuour grasp of the english language? First, Rouge didn’t say 15 or 20 years ago, but 25 or 30 years ago, which is pretty dam significant for someone who dies at 48.

2ndly I said very simply that she was beautiful and amazingly talented lady, and the comment was

the person you describe existed 25-30 yrs ago

Implying not just that she was better when she was 18 to 23, but that she ceased being beautiful or amazingly talented at 24, since that person no longer existed.

As I said, I responded to the actual words not your misrepresentation of them. By most standards of decency it was a tacky and unnessecary thing to say about a musical icon who passed away so young and my response was pretty mild.

I believe you used the term MILF in another thread, for starters.

I did indeed. So finding someone attractive and sexually desireable is derogatory? Maybe you should look that word up.
