Bill Clinton: “We Should Be Aware” Of Oklahoma City Bombing When Discussing The Tea Party Movement

video

Former President Bill Clinton sat down with Wolf Blitzer yesterday to chat about his assessment of the passion on the part of the Tea Party movement, and after making similar statements yesterday in a speech to the Center for American Progress, he repeated that something like the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing couid happen again given the anger of the movement.

Clinton commented on the recent threats against the President and Congressional members, noting that the threats have “been systematically coming out of the far right” but citing specifically Republican House whip Eric Cantor and New Jersey governor Chris Christie as counter-examples of that. He then continued by arguing that “we should be aware” of the Oklahoma City bombing when we discuss the tea partiers:

“…we have enough threats against the President, enough threats against the Congress that we should be sensitive to it. The 15th Anniversary of Oklahoma City– I’m not trying to draw total parallels, I’m just saying we should be aware of this. This is a vast echo chamber, this internet, and there’s lots of folks listening. And as I said, some are serious, some are delirious. Some are connected; some are unhinged. And all of us who have any responsibility have to exercise that responsibility so that we’re intellectually honest about our political positions, but we’re also intellectually honest about what certain words might do to people who are less stable.”

The comments will probably spark outrage on the part of tea partiers that are once again being accused of having terrorist leanings. Clinton is yet another voice that has adopted the “Timothy McVeigh was a proto-tea partier” talking point– just in time for the fifteenth anniversary of the attack. Sean Hannity has called his fans McVeigh “wannabes” in the past, albeit facetiously. MSNBC is scheduled to air a Beckian documentary thriller suggesting just that on the eve of the bombing, a special entitled “The McVeigh Tapes” hosted by Rachel Maddow.

Stripped of the specifics, though, Clinton’s comments read read more like an attempt at crafting a soundbite that will re-insert him into the national conversation. “I actually love this political debate. I’d like to be a part of it,” he confesses, and his emphasis on the fact that “we’ve been through this before”– while he was President– suggests he would like to be considered an authority on the matter. At the very least he is sure to get some milage out of this interview.

    Bill Adkins:

The IRS pilot and the Holocaust shooter were not a conservatives!!!

The Holocaust shooter was an anti-Bush 9/11 truther whose views on Israel lined up most closely with Rev. Jeremiah Wright. As for the IRS pilot, here’s a passage from his on-line manifesto:

    _____

I remember reading about the stock market crash before the “great” depression and how there were wealthy bankers and businessmen jumping out of windows when they realized they screwed up and lost everything. Isn’t it ironic how far we’ve come in 60 years in this country that they now know how to fix that little economic problem; they just steal from the middle class (who doesn’t have any say in it, elections are a joke) to cover their asses and it’s “business-as-usual”. Now when the wealthy fuck up, the poor get to die for the mistakes… isn’t that a clever, tidy solution.

As government agencies go, the FAA is often justifiably referred to as a tombstone agency, though they are hardly alone. The recent presidential puppet GW Bush and his cronies in their eight years certainly reinforced for all of us that this criticism rings equally true for all of the government. Nothing changes unless there is a body count (unless it is in the interest of the wealthy sows at the government trough). In a government full of hypocrites from top to bottom, life is as cheap as their lies and their self-serving laws.

I know I’m hardly the first one to decide I have had all I can stand. It has always been a myth that people have stopped dying for their freedom in this country, and it isn’t limited to the blacks, and poor immigrants. I know there have been countless before me and there are sure to be as many after. But I also know that by not adding my body to the count, I insure nothing will change. I choose to not keep looking over my shoulder at “big brother” while he strips my carcass, I choose not to ignore what is going on all around me, I choose not to pretend that business as usual won’t continue; I have just had enough . . .

The communist creed: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.

The capitalist creed: From each according to his gullibility, to each according to his greed.

That’s not a Tea Partier or a conservative!! The fact that you accept the Media Matters spin on such events uncritically without looking at the source documents yourself is just sad. Your progressive opinion leaders are lying to you, and your dumb enough to believe it without thinking for yourself.

  • valkyrie101

But none of that violence should be tied to the tea party. That is not fair. This domestic violence has existed longer than the tea party.

  • http://www.anonymousfinch.com AnonymousFinch

I should add that the Pentagon shooter was also a 9/11 truther who littered the internet with anti-Bush rants. Here’s an example:

    _____
This criminal organization would use its powers to convert military, intelligence, and law enforcement bureaucracies into instruments for political control, and the domination and subjection of society, while discrediting, destroying, and murdering honest individuals within those services, that work to root out corruption, and faithfully serve their fellow citizens. This organization, like so many murderous governments throughout history, would see the sacrifice of thousands of its citizens in an event such as the September 11 attacks, as a small cost in order to perpetuate its barbaric control. This collection of gangsters would find it in their interest to foment conflict and initiate wars throughout the world, in order to divert attention from their misconduct and criminality. The true nature of such a regime would find its clearest expression in the satanic violence currently ongoing in Iraq.
    _____

Again, that’s no Tea Partier or conservative.

  • valkyrie101

Right finch, there are crazies on both sides of the political spectrum. The tea party has been peaceful. Just because there are some people on the right who may be violent, that does not mean they have anything to do with the tea party. Nor do left wing craizies have anything to do with the peaceful movement that is progressivism.

  • http://www.anonymousfinch.com AnonymousFinch

    Valkyrie:

    We agree.

  • Toshiba2

Its interesting that the crazies and the tea-parties are on the rise at the same exact time, weird isnt it? Where were the rallies for spending for the wars, which future generations will be paying for ?

  • roxsteady

Yes, and the “Bury Obamacare with Kennedy” signs were very peaceful and professionally made! Oh, and the whole “crazies on both sides meme” is bullshit. Whenever someone says this, they never give you an example that’s happening right now. They usually bring up some event from the past but, it’s never the equivalent of what’s happening now. They don’t talk about Democratic Senators or Congress joining protestors and cheering them on while they display offensive signs that have nothing to do with reality. With taxes at their lowest since 1960, that wingnut rally was a joke. And these people are supposed to be educated and wealthy? It looked more like a Senior Citizens Rally, with more than half of them on one of those gubmint programs they favored in that poll, Social Security and Medicare.

Here’s the answer to your question:

The simple answer is that Obama added more to the federal debt in his first MONTH in office then Bush did in his first TERM in office.

Voters Currently Divided on Second Obama Term
Just under half say he deserves re-election
    by Jeffrey M. Jones

PRINCETON, NJ — Registered voters are about evenly divided over whether President Barack Obama is deserving of a second term in office. Currently, 46% say he deserves re-election and 50% say he does not. Predictably, Democrats are one-sided for Obama’s re-election and Republicans are one-sided against it, while independents lean against a second Obama term.

    Oh, Toshiba, snap! Hello!

Deficit climbs to record under Obama’s budget
$3.8 trillion budget: Jobs take priority; reaction swift

February 02, 2010|By Carolyn Lochhead, Chronicle Washington Bureau
Washington — President Obama’s $3.8 trillion budget blueprint for next year sets a new deficit record of $1.56 trillion, includes a big jobs program and rolls back Bush-era tax cuts for high-income Americans. The president sidestepped any major attack on chronic deficits, which would not drop below $700 billion in the next several years.

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703906204575027181656362948.html

As for the deficit, CBO shows that over the first three years of the Obama Presidency, 2009-2011, the federal government will borrow an estimated $3.7 trillion. That is more than the entire accumulated national debt for the first 225 years of U.S. history. By 2019, the interest payments on this debt will be larger than the budget for education, roads and all other nondefense discretionary spending.

  • Jamestaylor

Toshiba, did your TV understand this? “That is more than the entire accumulated national debt for the first 225 years of U.S. history.”

    hahahaha

  • http://www.sailrabbits.com Magister

Not to be contrary, but it seems to me that Bill separates the true nutjobs from the mainstream Tea Partiers in the first couple of minutes, then he spends the rest of the time talking about the extremists before he cautions everyone to watch their rhetoric.

  • dhg

It is in the interest of the liberal democrats and their agenda to demonize any opposition. It’s a political tactic from day one of politics, find a target and use it to your advantage. It doesn’t matter if it’s accurate or valid as long as it paints a picture in the voting public’s mind.

Translation:It really means nothing and should not be paid attention to.

  • valkyrie101

Come on finch, of course Obama added to the deficit, the country was on the abyss of collapse. That is what he took over. Remember, stock market crash, meltdown of auto industry, etc. That was inherited. Now you blame Obama for keeptng all of that afloat?

  • valkyrie101

Here is what the conservatives did, they sent 3 million jobs overseas so the big corporations could make more money manufacturing where labor costs are much cheaper in developing countries. They claimed lower corporate taxes would bring investment and growth, but the investment they made was in other countries, leaving the American worker to pound sand.

  • http://www.anonymousfinch.com AnonymousFinch

    Valkyrie:

Here’s the problem with that argument. I’m basing my arguments about Obama and the deficit/debt on his own budget. In other words, I’m not looking at one year (2009) and blaming him for that. I am using HIS OWN estimate of what the deficit and debt will look like after two full terms (if he has two full terms). That estimated budget is the “best of all possible worlds” scenario for him. In putting together that budget, he gets to assume that he gets every piece of legislation that he wants, that the legislation costs exactly what he says it will, and that the economy responds as positively to those legislative changes as possible. In other words, it’s a pipe dream.

Even under that “best-of-all-possible-worlds,” pipe dream budget, Obama ADMITS that the deficit in his BEST year will be larger than than the deficit in Bush’s WORST year. If you want to debate about whether Bush or Obama is responsible for the deficit in ’09, we can have that debate. But you can’t debate that the deficit in Obama’s 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th years in office will still be Bush’s fault. And, again, those are pipe dream numbers. The reality will surely be much, much worse.

If you read Obama’s own budget, he is screaming at all of you that he INTENDS to bankrupt the country. Don’t be surprised when it happens. Don’t be surprised when it turns out even worse than he predicted. And, most of all, don’t fool yourself into thinking that it’s George Bush’s fault. Read his budget; do the math; it’s all right there.

  • JamesA1102

The Holocaust shooter was an anti-Bush 9/11 truther whose views on Israel lined up most closely with Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Oh please! And you have the nerve to say that you’re intellectually honest. Say what you want about Rev. Wright but he didn’t admire Hitler and deny the Holocaust as Von Brunn did; so to say his views lined up most closely with Rev. Wright is just an outright lie. You also conveniently omitted that Von Brunn was a white supremacist and a Birther.

  • valkyrie101

There is no problem with my argument, the nation was in the abyss. That is what Obama started with, and that is the hill he must climb. He has been in office a little over a year, and all he has gotten, 100%, is opposition from the Republican side. They blame him for the economic mess, but he inherited that from them. Republicans hope for a worse situation so they can blame Obama during the next election. They seek our problems to get worse. That is sick. And anti-American. But the American people are noticing the party of no, and that is not much for Republicans to run on, whatever they may think. Assuming they have a party after the tea party guts it.

  • Caryson

It is no accident that Bubba has joined in with the propaganda meme of Anti Tea Party Protest that is being orchestrated out of the White House and the DNC. They are scared to death of the Tea Party movement.

They are using standard Alinsky tactics: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”

Bill Clinton knows these tactics well as his “wife” did her senior thesis on Saul Alinsky when she attended Wellesley College.

The former president should also know about Alinsky tactics as Obama used the same tactics against him when he ran for president. He demonized Clinton and called him a racist to win the SC primary.

These leftists are always eager to show some connection between Timothy McVeigh and the Tea Party Protesters but will never, ever mention anything about the whack jobs on the left.

Ironically, it was Clinton as president that pardoned FALN terrorists and Obama launched his political career in the home of William Ayers.

  • HanzoSword

Another bs article by Meidaite to excuse the hyper violent language that is currently coming out of the far right. Oh, and you trash MSNBC again.

What a joke this site is.

  • valkyrie101

Here is how the Republicans think, first, we create the worst economic disaster in U.S. history, hand it to Obama, start blaming him for the problems, resist every effort made by Obama, and the Democratic Congress, stonewall everything, filibuster, make it blatantly political, to the country’s detrement, actually cheer for Obama to fail, hope he does, do our best to make him fail, then when it all falls apart, hey the public will call on us to fix the problems. LOL. The Republican moderates, who I love, I hope are waiting patiently in the wings until these reactionary right wingers, who seek to take over the party, have gone off with Sarah and FOX to form their own party. In a three party race, the dems win.

    Anonymous Finch,

“From: “James W. von Brunn” Subject: FW: Henrik Holappa arrested Date: Tue, 10 Mar 2009 10:15:08 -0400

Millions of low IQ non-whites are encouraged to illegally invade the USA . They are provided sanctuary, jobs, health-care schooling, by those intent upon destroying Western Civilization. Whereas, the subject of this email, Henrik Holappa, the Finn, who has committed no illegal acts, is arrested and incarcerated illegally by American agents in Marxist employ.

The Henrik Holappa atrocity is a metaphor for the ILLUMINATI conquest of America: The ILLUMINATI, has captured America illegally, and is incarcerating her NOW into a Global Zionist state.

Well informed patriots are ignoring the URGENCY, the extreme DANGER confronting them. There is sparse time remaining. You must ACT NOW. KILL THE ENEMY OR DIE IN THE GULAG !”,

This is the guy you’re trying to pretty up for your argument, Finch?

    Don’t forget about Richard Poplawski:

“PITTSBURGH, April 5 (2009)(UPI) — The 22-year-old man charged with killing three Pittsburgh police officers was frequent visitor to far-right Web sites, his Internet activities reveal.

Richard Poplawski posted his profile and photographs of his tattoos on the white supremacist Web site Stormfront, which serves as a clearinghouse for neo-Nazi and anti-Semitic groups, using the site to display an eagle tattoo spread across his chest, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported Sunday…

…Poplawski was arrested Saturday after a four-hour standoff, charged with ambushing and killing three officers and attempting to slay nine others.

Poplawski also believed in conspiracy theories espousing beliefs that a secret cabal running the United States was bent on eradicating freedom of speech and gun rights at the behest of Jews, a friend told the newspaper.”

Or James Adkisson, the Church shooter from Tennessee and his manifesto:

By David Neiwert Wednesday Feb 11, 2009 12:00pm

“Know this if nothing else: This was a hate crime. I hate the damn left-wing liberals. There is a vast left-wing conspiracy in this country & these liberals are working together to attack every decent & honorable institution in the nation, trying to turn this country into a communist state. Shame on them….

“This was a symbolic killing. Who I wanted to kill was every Democrat in the Senate & House, the 100 people in Bernard Goldberg’s book. I’d like to kill everyone in the mainstream media. But I know those people were inaccessible to me. I couldn’t get to the generals & high ranking officers of the Marxist movement so I went after the foot soldiers, the (expletive) liberals that vote in these traitorous people. Someone had to get the ball rolling. I volunteered. I hope others do the same. It’s the only way we can rid America of this cancerous pestilence.”

“I thought I’d do something good for this Country Kill Democrats til the cops kill me….Liberals are a pest like termites. Millions of them Each little bite contributes to the downfall of this great nation. The only way we can rid ourselves of this evil is to kill them in the streets. Kill them where they gather. I’d like to encourage other like minded people to do what I’ve done. If life aint worth living anymore don’t just kill yourself. do something for your Country before you go. Go Kill Liberals.”

wow, you are all so ready to smack down on “the other side” (whichever that is to you) that you missed the entire point of what Clinton was saying. or at least failed to address it. this is not about whether or not mcveigh, the IRS plane guy, or the holocaust museum shooter were conservative or liberal. it has nothing to do with that. it’s about not being dismissive about the hateful, fear-filled, apocalyptic language being used by the media (cough*Fox News*cough) that is causing unwarranted, blown out of proportion fear and anger in certain members of the far right. Clinton mentioned “some are serious, some are delirious. Some are connected; some are unhinged.” nobody thinks ALL tea partiers, or conservatives for that matter, are violent and ready to kill. he mentions the tea party specifically now, not because they are “conservatives” and he’s not, not because only conservatives have every been radical or done violent things, but because that is what’s in the news right now. that group (even if it is a very small portion of it) is where the threats of violence are coming from AT THIS TIME. if people in the middle or the left were showing up at protests with completely biggoted signs and especially GUNS and other weapons, everyone would be talking about that too.

Bill Clinton is just trying to be relevant and help the left defame anything that isn’t flaming liberalism.

In actuality, Clinton is a loathesome coward who, had he been paying more attention to national security than interns asses would have given the order to take out bin Laden when the troops had him in their cross hairs.

Just think of it: Throughout history, Bill Clinton will be remembered always as the one man who could have prevented the attacks on 11 September 2001. He’s trying awfully hard to outrun that legacy but he never shall do so!!!!!

  • valkyrie101

My goodness pyrope, you are blaming Bill Clinton for 911. Wasn’s Bush president for close to two years when that happened?

  • beckaleck

Tyler, again, you completely miss the point. i am not saying there aren’t negative things being said by one side and not the other. but there is a difference between negativity/calling people names and convincing americans (by intentionally misinforming them) that the government is out to get them to the extent that people start acting violently, threatening violence, showing up at rallies with weapons, forming militias and talking about revolution. you honestly think olbermann being a meany is the same thing? i am not a liberal (and by the way, i can’t stand olbermann either, i think he’s an idiot and a baby) but Fox News is a joke and extremely irresponsible. try to calm down enough to be able to see when you are being lied to and manipulated.

  • pyrope

Valkyrie101: You are precisely correct! Our troops had bin Laden zeroed in and called the White House to get permission to take him out. Clinton said “no.” As it turns out, it was bin Laden who created and financed the attacks on 11 September 2001. Had bin Laden been taken out, those subsequent events would never have happened. Mr. Bush was in office for a short time when the attacks came. It also happened that Cliton’s Secretary of State (Ms. Halfbright) had gutted the intelligence infrastructure while Cliton was chasing skirts. It was that faulty intelligence that had everyone believing that Hussein still had WMD. That in itself turned out better than it might have because with Iraq stabilized, the US has a platform to launch operations anywhere in the Middle East. Certainly, I believe you will agree that the lack of infrastructure in Afghanistan would make it difficult to launch operations in Afghanistan. (Kinda like, during WW II, it would have been difficult to launch operations in Germany or Japan had a platform for doing so not have been established in England and the Philipines, Wake Island, Guam, etc.

BILL CLINTON CAUSED THE OKLAHOMA BOMBING, BUT BLAMES THE TEA PARTY.

Bill Clinton and Janet Reno are 100% responsible for burning to death 74 men, women and children at Waco on April 19, 1993. Timothy McVeigh bombed the Oklahoma federal building to prove that the federal government could not massacre U.S. citizens without repercussions.

Like all lying liberal politicians, Bill Clinton is trying to rewrite history and blame someone else, so Clinton blames the conservative TEA Party. Bill Clinton must accept his own responsibility for his tyrannical massacre of the Waco civilians and for the citizen’s retribution in Oklahoma.

Liberalism is the lie that government can buy votes by giving massive welfare benefits to people that do not work for it. When the government goes broke and the lie is exposed, then liberals and socialists hide their lies by suppressing dissent and becoming tyrants.

President Obama already sent his own thugs to mug the TEA Party. See photos and proof at http://backgroundsearch.com/backgroundsearch3/backgroundsearch3pages/Obama-Field-Agents-Staged-Confrontations-at-Ohio-Tea-Party.html
