Boehner on ‘Crisis’ Between Cops, Black Communities: ‘You’ve Just Gotta Scratch Your Head’

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) agreed with Meet the Press host Chuck Todd’s characterization of the relationship between police and black communities as in a “national crisis,” saying “if you look at what’s happened over the course of what’s happened over the last year, you’ve just gotta scratch your head.”*

Boehner said that if the six Baltimore police members charged with homicide over the death of Freddie Gray were found guilty, then it was “outrageous and unacceptable,” adding that “public servants should not violate law.”

He had numerous ideas on how to fix the inequities many see as undergirding the broken relations between law enforcement nadandcommunities, starting with “fixing a broken tax system,” and especially education. Todd asked how one fixed education without more government funding. “If money was gonna solve the education problem, we would have solved it decades ago,” the speaker said with a scoff. Todd did not follow up by asking what would.
