Dem Rep on Controversial Obamacare Ad Targeting Gays: ‘Whatever It Takes to Get People Enrolled’
Gay rights advocacy groups on the right have criticized an advertisement created by the group Out2Enroll which targets gay and lesbian Americans by, they say, appealing to offensive stereotypes. In one video, scantily clad men dance provocatively while touting the benefits of enrollment in the insurance exchanges. When asked about the controversy, Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) suggested he’s fine with it so long as it helps get people enrolled.
After playing a clip of the controversial ad, MSNBC anchor Craig Melvin asked Pallone for his impression of the spot. Pallone said that he did not see the advertisement as being especially controversial in light of the pressing need to increase enrollment.
“Whatever it takes to get people enrolled,” Pallone said.
“Whatever it takes?” Melvin asked.

Pallone pivoted to attacking Gov. Chris Christie for not using more of the funding allocated to promoting the Affordable Care Act to drive up enrollment.
“Whether it’s an ad, whether it’s, you know, TV ads, or newspaper ads, or people going door-to-door, I just want people to sign up,” Pallone added.
