Former IMF Chief Strauss-Kahn Released On Bail, Will Get Home Detention
Former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn has been released on bail. Bail was set as a $1 million bond, with an additional insurance bond of $5 million.
Charged with sexually assaulting a maid at a Manhattan hotel, Strauss-Kahn had been previously told by a judge that he would be held without bail, at least until his next court hearing. He has resigned from his post as the IMF’s managing director, although he had not been forced to do so by the court.
The terms of his release dictate that Strauss-Kahn will receive home detention, wearing an electronic monitoring device and accompanied by at least one guard at all times.
Strauss-Kahn’s defense argued that their client was an “honorable” man, noting that Bernie Madoff and many other alleged criminals were granted bail in the past. Strauss-Kahn agreed to surrender his passport, promising that he wouldn’t flee the country. He had been denied bail on Monday on the grounds that he posed a flight risk.
