Fox News Remains Number Three Network On All Of Cable In August

ratings

Fox News, like the rest of cable news, has seen year-to-year ratings declines this summer, and August was no exception.

But when compared to the rest of cable, FNC remains the #3 network in total viewers (prime time). Here’s more details from the month.

• Fox News was the #3 network on all of cable, while MSNBC was 29th, CNN 34th and HLN 37th.

• FNC’s prime time programs topped CNN, MSNBC and HLN combined in total viewers. During every hour, FNC beat CNN and MSNBC combined.

Check out the cable ranker here.

• Fox News had the top 11 programs in total viewers and the top eight programs in the demo during August.

Red Eye, FNC’s 3amET show, had better ratings in the demo than CNN’s 8pmET Rick’s List.

• Still, like many programs on cable news, FNC saw declines. The O’Reilly Factor was down 20% in total viewers and 26% in the demo, Hannity was down 20% in total viewers and 24% in demo and On The Record declined 17% in total viewers and 24% in demo. That was comparable with MSNBC’s decline in the demo – CNN was down more year-to-year.

Check out the program ranker here.

MSNBC was 29th? Surprisingly, not bad. Was that in front of, or behind. Cartoon Network?

Im of the opinion that summer ratings are pretty meaningless, regardless of who wins or loses.

Too many people on vacation, outside and enjoying life.
When we all return in doors, those matter even more.

Yes, but we must take into account the population of the earth, and the phase of the moon, and how much wood could a woodchuck chuck and….nah, I’m no good at this. Let the King do it.

  • CynK

These ratings are meaningless. For me to receive MSNBC, I have to pay $30 more a month, yet Fox cable news comes with the most basic of packages.

Fox is in the hen house with big business and the common man/woman who buy their spiel as gospel are fools. Like the Wall Street Journal cares about those ignoramuses gathered on the mall to listen to Beck, Palin et al., get a grip.

And remember that there are a billion people in China who don’t watch Fox. So Fox ratings are just a fraction of a fraction of a fraction. And then, assuming that there is life elsewhere in the universe, we need to apply a further factor reduction to the audience share…Oh, I’ll let the MSNBC fans here do the math for us.

Aaaaahahahahah! You know Greg’s gonna run a story on this tonight :-)

You’re on your way out, CNN. Act accordingly.

Thank god FOX news is the only conservative crap news on tv. If you add up all the others they blow FOX’s ratings away. So the smart people win after all! FOX is bull crap. It’s a bunch of lies for corporate interest tied to energy industries and weapons manufacturers, some of the largest profit makers.

  • dummy123

I understand FoxNews has a HUGE non-conservative audience.
Kieth Olber-loon is the greatest Tweeter though….he stalks MLB players in the locker room and post pictures of them.
He is a real athletic supporter!

I believe Keith was a jock (strap) in high school.

the “HATE OBAMA” network : Fux News is running out of topics…..i think the Sean Vannity exhilarating topic “How many vacations has the president taken?” had evryone glued to the tv…….NOT!!!!!!!!!

  • orionantares

The most surprising thing about this is the number of people still being suckered by cable subscriptions.

  • KMLake

Good. I hope Rupert Murdock the vampire king is worried. He’s got a lot of nerve to call it Fox News… it should be Faux anything but the news. As Rupert wrings his skeletal mits of the destruction of my people and the growth of fear and hate that makes us turn against each other. Hurry up and die old man.

Yep you are so right and I tried to explain this to the flying monkey boys. You know simple research methodology, having a standard of ethics that prevents you from infering anything from skewed results. To no avail… it took them too long to decipher the big words.

  • timcajun

The ratings tell more of a story than we know! Fox will go on record as saying they are top on ratings, YET they are NOT! This is what the tea baggers want to hear, lie to me, scare me, give hate, and spin baby spin !!!

People watch FOX news because you get to hear different views. Whenever I turn to CNN or MSNBC they will have 3 or 4 people spouting the same opinion. I love to hear all sides. I will continue to watch FOX as long as they keep using format. I have to pay extra to get the FOX channel.
