Glenn Beck For Office? TARP Flip-Flop Shows Why He Can Never Get Elected

video

beck_tarpOn last night’s show, Glenn Beck admitted that he “was for the TARP bailout, before he was against it,” which demonstrates two important qualities about the controversial broadcaster: the candor that makes him seem so refreshing to his audience; and the primary reason he will never get elected.

Although the idea was floated primarily in jest, there are many people that would love nothing more than to see Glenn Beck officially enter the political arena. His unique point-of-view and, at times, refreshing candor, has built a loyal fan base that is unrivaled by nearly any other broadcaster today — perhaps best evidenced by the 9-12 event which he helped organize. And while few have likely considered Beck running for office in a serious manner, I’d be willing to bet that the vast majority of his 3 million daily viewers see him as a solver of the grave problems that currently face our nation.

The thing is though, Beck never actually has to solve a problem. All he has to do is talk for roughly 45 minutes on this television show, and it doesn’t even have to make sense. He never has to compromise with a differing point of view, or build any sort of consensus, or serve a constituency. All he needs to do is be entertaining – something he does very well.

Beck was smart to pull out he audio of his flip-flop on the bailout – by being the first to introduce his inconsistent policies, he not only neuters any of his critics, but he gets to play his self-effacement card (and really, does anyone else play that better?)

Beck may have a significant audience — but there are many people, including himself, that think that he’s a clown.

A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines.

Speak of the 9-12 Project, “perhaps best evidenced by the 9-12 event which he helped organize, did anyone else notice the reference to it in the Obama speech?

It is easy to forget that when this war began, we were united bound together by the fresh memory of a horrific attack, and by the determination to defend our homeland and the values we hold dear. I refuse to accept the notion that we cannot summon that unity again. I believe with every fiber of my being that we as Americans can still come together behind a common purpose. For our values are not simply words written into parchment they are a creed that calls us together, and that has carried us through the darkest of storms as one nation, one people.

I can’t believe I forgot to talk about this before!

But anyway… sure sounds Beck-ian to me. Talking about the “unity feeling” after 9-11, and trying to return to that “all for one, and one for all” feeling.

It’s freaking amazing. Obama is failing and flailing in so many ways, and his media supporters have resorted to creating straw man GOP 2012 nominees to back him up.

“the candor that makes him seem so refreshing to his audience; ”

Are you actually trying to portray that smarmy slime as somehow sincere and virtuous? It’s enough to make me puke. His con game, and that’s what it is, is boght only by the suckers.

Beck’s place is in the media, he knows that and loves it. The fear from the left about this issue is pretty eye-opening though.

Fear Beck? No – sickened by the slime that he is? Yes. Beck’s place in the media is due to the low intellect of his sick-o-phants.

  • Ben Linus

Ah, poor Bill Adkins. You a little upset? Is it because your great Obama is just another “war monger” President, or is it because NO ONE watches all the left wing moron shows?
    Ha! Ha! Haaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Bill, your the sad man that makes me smile.

Glenn Beck will stay where he can do the best for this country, IN THE MEDIA! He is doing more than any of the so-called “Journalist’s” in the Lame Stream Media. Keep up the good work, Glenn! Millions of fans will continue to watch and learn! Love the way you make the rabid little liberal ferrets froth and foam! Carry on, friend!

Thanks for making my point about your low intellect, Ben.

Hey, be nice. Adkin’s like “high intellect” and “respectful” commentary. That’s why he says things like this:

As a Jew you should remember that in Warsaw during WW II Jews acting as policemen for their Nazi masters helped to herd Jews to the camps (btw, this is another historical reference- you can look it up). It seems you’ve applied for the police academy early.

Now the average person would feel some remorse or disgust in saying something so nasty… but Bill isn’t average… he’s BETTER than that. This is the kind of stuff Bill likes… or else, he would have apologized already.

    Right Bill?

ImNotBlue has got to have the thinnest skin in the world. Rabidly everyone all the time here on Mediaite – so incessantly that I’m actually starting to get worried about a personality disorder.

But when getting a taste of the same medicine? Starts mouth foaming.

ImNot isn’t comfortable unless we’re all talking about him. So let’s take the time to acknowledge this recluse. He’s a sweetheart.

Remember when Glenn was for healthcare reform before he realized that he could line his pockets with tea party coin and then was against it?? You guys are a hoot! I am not afraid of Glenn. I love that he lines his pockets with your money. Capitalism at its best, baby!

you can see what happens to liberals when they don’t get their way or someone makes a valid point.. they become children. Constantly mocking, dismissing, changing the subject, or ignoring it while going on justifying themselves with nothing other then praise for themselves.

If you have a quote from me that rises to that level of nasty and insulting language, from me… I’d appreciate if you showed me. If I owe an apology, call me out… and I’ll will provide.

Other than that… please defend how Bill Atkin’s quote is appropriate or acceptable.

Well, one I’m not a recluse… but thank you for the concern. As for being a sweetheart… well, guilty!

But I really don’t want or need everyone to talk about me… just ONE apology from ONE person… that’s all I’ve asked for.

I am not afraid of Glenn. I love that he lines his pockets with your money.

Kinda reminds me of MSNBC and how they found that letting someone like Keith Olbermann run the network would make them money. Do you love that they’re lining their pockets (the lining is thin, and so is the revenue) with YOUR money? The whole concept is foolish. If Beck, Olbermann, or whomever is expressing a commonly held opinion, and inspiring a group of people to be more politically active… what’s the problem?

Be honest, tjl, m, and the rest… it’s not Beck you dislike… it’s that he disagrees with you politically and is popular for it. And that, more than any other manufactured reason of the moment, is why the left dislikes him.

Jeez, I thought the reason he is unelectable was because he’s a nut job.

  • jimmymaher

Love that phrase. What Barack did is far from flip flopping. He has always been for gun ownership with some regulatory measures (what’s flipping about that?). He never committed to taking public financing, he said that he would “pursue” it (that’s not commitment- he gave himself wiggle room). As far as the telcom immunity, he took a compromise he felt was the best under the circumstances in Congress. If he had done one thing he’d be called “soft of terror.” If he had gone to the far right he would be labeled a “Bush pushover.” He veered to the center, exactly where he should be at this point.

    What a made-up story….

Glenn would never throw his hat in the political arena. As a broadcaster, he can actually inspire people to get involved, learn policy procedures, expose corruption, and take action to the streets. Noone in government can do all of that and keep up with the beurocracy. He be bound by a political straight-jacket.

He’s well placed where he’s at now. In office, he only gets 1 vote that my go unnoticed if he’s in the minority party. I believe the left would benefit from Glenn in office. His shows would end, and his voice would be reduced to 1 vote. Maybe their just trying to trick him into running.

By the way, Colby Hall doesnt bother himself with reporting WHY Glenn changed positions, only that he changed positions. And in politics, changing positions is an offense, even if your reasons are pure.

  • changemonger

Also, the name-calling of his fans is getting old. I’m a fan and I’m none of the things that his critics are calling me. I’m educated, I’m an engineer, I live in a ethnically diverse neighborhood (blacks, africans, mixed couples, country folk all live on my street). I don’t follow him blindly, and I don’t always agree with him.

Heres why I’m a fan. He exposes things that were meant to be hidden.

Would anybody have known Van Jones was a self-proclaimed communist, 9/11 truther, or a marxist…. but they were true, Glenn focused on it, and now he’s gone.

Would anybody have known of Anita Dunns adoration of mao tse tung…. and now shes gone.

Would anybody have known of Yosi Sergant’s misuse of federal grants… and now hes gone.

Would anybody know about Phil Jones and his sketchy science…. he just stepped down.

These aren’t wins for Glenn or Fox News…. these are wins for Americans who are tired of corruption. This is just a start of the house cleaning on both sides of the isle.

I’m a republican, but I plan on voting Mitch McConnel (R-KY) out because of his corruption.

Thats why I watch Glenn Beck. He’s the watch dog from which I base my research.

  • Ted

The problem with the tea bag crowd is that Beck is their Messiah and what he says must as a matter of fact be true. The above contains only partially true information and cause and effect conclusions that are simply false. Not that it matters. There is the truth and then there’s Beckian truth.

The only difference between what you wrote, and what could be wrote with someone else’s name (try Obama, Olbermann, Maddow, etc.) is the point of view with which you approach it.

If your complaint is that nobody should put 100% faith in any one person… I agree. If you point is don’t put your faith in Beck, because he’s not a Liberal, put your faith in those guys… you are 100% wrong.
