As Olbermann’s Tweet Promised, CBS’ Craig Ferguson’s Monologue Is About Him

One of the best parts of Craig Ferguson’s Late Late Show on CBS is that…well, he pretty much does whatever he wants. If he wants to open his show with puppets, he does it. If he wants a permanent “sidekick” that also happens to be a robot, he’ll get it. And if he wants to structure his entire monologue around Keith Olbermann’s departure from MSNBC, we found out tonight that he’ll do that too.

Olbermann urged his Twitter followers to watch Ferguson’s show tonight, and Ferguson delivered with an outstanding performance that managed to focus on Olbermann without really focusing on Olbermann. Ferguson both lampooned the intense focus a specific segment of the population placed on the Olbermann drama (“People on the right are saying, ‘Hooray, he’s gone!’ People on the left are going, ‘Oh no, he’s gone!’ And most people are saying, ‘Did you see the Jets game?! You believe that?”), while also musing on the nature of voicing strong opinions in a prominent broadcasting position:

“What are you, some kind of opinionated broadcaster? You’ll end up getting fired, or leaving, or getting your contract voided, or whatever the [expletive] happened to Keith.”

If that’s not enough, along the way he mixed in, um, creative new meanings for ‘CBS’ and ‘MSNBC,’ a Brett Favre penis joke, and of course, his robot sidekick Geoff Peterson. Video, via CBS, below.

Good God, anyone notice that it sounded like someone in the audience was fake laughing, constantly!?

But anyway, how awesome is it that Keith has such famous friends who just love to have fun with him? And you can so see how not thin skinned he is since he tweeted about this, showing how cool he is with being gently ribbed by one of his many famous awesome friends.

Like when he was just so jazzed when Ben Affleck was going to do a spoof on him, that he actually went to the set and made Ben and everyone totally comfortable with the fact that Keith just had to see how awesome the skit was and how not horribly self consciously thin skinned he is. And to prove it, that Monday night he not only showed clips of his best friend Ben gently ribbing him, proving that he can laugh at himself, but he brought on an actual cue card with a note written by his buddy Ben that he, Ben, did indeed not write the script and that he loves his awesome friend Keith and was totally comfortable with Keith hiding in the background watching the awesome skit written by other famous friends of his.

But yeah, again, thank God he’s so self depreciating and thick skinned and can laugh at himself. I just hope no one ever makes fun of his awesome college degree, cause then he’d have to prove them wrong and bring on his degree… And we know how silly that would be!

Indeed, when they are the very ones who popularized the name. For weeks, we saw that crazy old White woman in the straw hat with all of the teabags stapled to the brim, proclaiming “I’m a Teabagger! I’m a Teabagger!” to the acclamation and retorts of “I’m a Teabagger, too!” by the assembled messes, I mean masses. It’s a disgusting word, to be sure, and I don’t use except as a quote, but the Tea Partiers were so proud of it.

I wish I could make it late enough to see Ferguson. Not because of the Olbermann material, which I am already tired of, but because he’s got an unparalleled comedic delivery. Beats Leno and Letterman.

So since rappers and others in the black community use the n-word that makes it ok to use even though it’s a slur. Since a few of them used it right? Just trying to follow your logic when a slur is ok and when it is not. Or is it that just that you don’t like those people and are justifying a slur by the thinnest of defences.

It’s not acceptable. There is simply something amusing about a nutty old woman shouting it out. That’s the extent of it.

    Thank you for clarifying.

Hay has anybody grabbed the domain name FOKers.com? Something to think about :).

Yes, being opinionated is why Olbermann’s not there anymore. That’s why Maddow and Schultz and Matthews and the rest are still there. Well thought out.

Keith, isn’t it really all about you?

  • Randy Springfield

Once again, I liked him! Sometimes he made sense. I imagine he’ll be back and he will laugh again at the endless material provided by the right. It’s hard not to. So Keith spun it left and FOX spins it right. FOX and all the “talk radio folks”. Somehow all the humor drains out of it when we consider the importance of the issues. So explain to me again how deregulating wall street and getting rid of the new deal is a good idea. The TVA didn’t help the south. Social security should be privatized and left to the folks on wall street? Keep spinning left Keith. Crinkling paper: throwing it at monitor!
