Sen. Mel Martinez Dumps Resignation on Slow News Friday, Successfully Gets No One To Care

martinez_8-7 Republican Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida announced today he would be resigning over August recess, opening the seat he already said he wouldn’t run again for in 2010.

It was a boring Friday news dump – but news nonetheless. So what happened when he held his big press conference at 3pmET?

Just Fox News took the announcement live, and even they jumped out after the first couple questions. The very un-Palin-like speech got very un-Palin-like coverage. Not cheating on his wife, completely healthy, wants to spend more time with his family…wait, someone’s screaming at a town hall!

Sorry, Mel. Enjoy retired life.
