Mike Barnicle To NC Gov: Can Post-Hurricane Reconstruction Create Jobs?

video

Today’s Morning Joe featured North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue talking about how her state is preparing for the arrival of Hurricane Irene. At the end of the interview, co-host Mike Barnicle asked the governor how state unemployment might be affected by rebuilding efforts after the storm subsides.

Perdue explained that “regardless of the cost,” every citizen would be safe from the storm. Barnicle then asked the following question:

“Is there potentially a rather dark downside to the storm in that after the storm has passed, after it’s over, there might be employment and reconstruction and things like that?”

Perdue was slightly taken aback by the question, but went on to explain that “some employment” will come from reconstruction, and a few dozen large structures could be targeted. However, Perdue also stated the obvious:

“All of us want jobs, but this isn’t the way to get them, quite frankly.”

Libs, faced with the mortality of their beloved ‘Lib-rul-ism,’ are forced to wave the flag for the silly ‘dig-a-hole-fill-it-in’ or ‘broken-window’ theology. Or, put another way, Krugman’s retarded ‘space alien’ argument.

Having taken step 1 by destroying the private sector, Libs don’t care a BIT for organic, ‘private-sector’ growth. They won’t advocate it because they don’t want it.

Libs: They declare that ‘ten steps backward and one step forward’ is tantamount to ‘growth.’

In order to give the illusion that he is working , King Obama has decreed that Hurricane Irene be added to the list of excuses for the rotten economy .

Where are Joe and Meeker during this crisis week of earthquakes and the Hurricane of Doom ?

Mike Barnicle? Didn’t he move in with Whitey Bulger, to help…keep his cell clean?

Jesus why didn’t he just word it this way:  “You know people in NC could die this weekend and lets be honest, the tourists, which are a nice source of revenue for your state, aren’t coming back for the rest of the summer, but hey it will all be worth it when people can get jobs rebuilding after this, won’t it?”

the governor handled it well but  my response would have been “Really? That’s what you want to talk about right this second? Dumbass.”

Wow – there is this thing called tact. Look it up.

I’m sure Obammy is wanting to petition the NWS to rename this Hurricane Bush so when it all goes to hell he can blame this on him as well. and I’m sure they’ll be some good “jobs report in the coming weeks” that people were able to find jobs working to restore the affected communities.

If King Obama’s brother George lived in N.C. , and was hit by Irene , would the Feds help in the hut reconstruction ? Because Barry is unlikely to .

I can’t wait for the Apocalypse. Some nuclear fallout…employment will be through the roof.

It never stops with these dishonest fools. These opportunists will use any reason(excuse) to raise taxes and build their socialist utopia. What? No bogus global warming fantasy this time? Too bad.

Progressives are so desperate for a jobs plan, any jobs plan…  Good going Mike, and a great response by the governor.

Hey Mike, why not burn down houses to get more jobs in the housing area, poison people so we can get more jobs in the health field and hire gangs to rob stores so we can hire more police.

we dont want any of those displaced refugees if any here in arizona.
    send them somewhere else.

we’re still trying to get rid of the ones they sent us from katrina

Leftists are reduced to wishing for death and destruction to help their love child, Barack Obama. I guess Joplin, Missouri getting wiped off the map by a tornado didn’t create enough jobs for them.

    Does the stupid ever stop….?
Remember what a jobs boon it was when the  I-35W Mississippi River bridge collapsed killing thirteen people….?

    Ahh….the good times.

The question posed by Mike Barncicle exposes the peculiar mind-set of the American Liberal.  Whether it is Automobile or Bank bailouts, Welfare or food stamps, the Liberal is incapable of recognizing the zero sum nature of circular job creation.

Ergo, if a natural disaster can be looked at as a positive economic moment, then logically, Government can and should create more “disasters” as they are economically advantageous to our Nation.  So too could allowing armed, violent  illegal Aliens who cause mayhem in various forms, stimulate the economy?  Such would be, according to Liberal economic thought, an economic opportunity.  Meaning such would be a boom for Hospitals and undertakers, also drug counselors and drug dealers, and on and on…

Furthermore, a policy of using Natural Disasters for economic improvement, we could start Forrest fires, knock out power lines, blow dams, etc.  Truthfully, Barnicle’s question, perhaps exposes the Socialist agenda whereby disaster salvation coupled with pseudo economic improvement, hence, Obama and Socialism prevails!  Lenin would be so proud of his protege’s wonderful and clever ideas?

    LMAO!

Is that the President’s new job plan, more food stamps and hurricanes?

Can’t be any worse than the Euro-Socialist policies he’s failed so miserably with so far!

Mr. President, have you seen pics of Greece, Italy, England & Spain?

    SOCIALISM & CRONY-CAPITALISM DOESN’T WORK!

I lived in Elizabeth City when hurricane Isabella came through as few years ago. Power companies, tree surgeons, carpenters, truckers, roofers, and every other kind of responder rushed into the area before 24 hours had passed. I less than a week nearly everything was back to normal. I’m not sure than any jobs were “created” by the hurricane.

Wait a minute. Why wasn’t the left thrilled about Hurricane Katrina then? That required billions from the government in order to rebuild New Orleans.

Because it happened on Bush’s watch!

I followed that Hurricane up I-95 as I was going to a wedding in DC…  it was a little spooky as there was absolutly no traffic and you could see the broken trees lining the Interstate as they had just been cleared off the road…  I can’t remember if I was a 1/2 day or a full day behind that storm…  you would see huge lines of utility trucks travelling from place to place..  Utility companies will send service trucks from several neighboring states and stage them somewhere nearby but our of harms way so that as the storm passes they will converge on the effected areas… I have seen a few of those convoys in Florida over the years as well.

    “Can Post-Hurricane Reconstruction Create”

So this is how pathetically low it gets? We’re counting on disasters to supply jobs?

In the spirit of “Learning is fun”, I offer this.

Krugman tried to pass this off about the earthquake being a good thing for the economy. That story alone should be enough to eradicate any credibility Krugman has as an economist even without the other mountains of evidence against him.

Barnicle might be forgiven just a little since he doesn’t claim to be an economist.

Barnicle is half-senile and needs to retire.  He certainly shouldn’t be given primary hosting duties when the regular MJ “talent” skips town.

After Willie Geist left earlier this week, Morning Joe put its Z team front and center:  Barnicle, Jonathan Capehart and some chubby-cheeked English lady.  Their guests included the likes of Jimmy Hoffa Jr. and the appalling “Doctor” Jeffrey Sachs.  They should have just let Bill Karins host the show – it was all hurricane coverage anyway.

There’s nothing wrong in looking for silver linings.
