‘You Worked for Donald Trump!’ CNN Guest Loses It on Republican Who Said Slam on President Was ‘Below the Belt’

A former aide to ex-President Bill Clinton went off on a former adviser to President Donald Trump for suggesting a reference to a Trump staffer was “below the belt.”

During a campaign speech on Sunday, Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) referenced Natalie Harp, Trump’s 35-year-old executive assistant. Last year, The New York Times reported that Harp once wrote to Trump, “You are all that matters to me.” Harp even accompanied Trump on the military plane that secretly carried him out of last month’s NATO summit in Turkey, even as cabinet secretaries and other White House staff departed on Air Force One, which was allegedly the target of an Iranian assassination plot against the president.

“He golfs and trades stocks,” Ossoff told rally-goers. “See, he doesn’t want to do the job; he wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie to their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar.”

In response, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung called Ossoff a “cuck loser.”

On Monday’s CNN NewsNight, host Abby Phillip aired a clip of Ossoff explaining his comment about Harp on MS NOW.

“Well, I’ve heard this particular aide referred to as his security blanket,” the senator said. “And I think we could say that about any number of the senior aides in the White House. They’re not telling him what he needs to hear. They’re telling him what he wants to hear… And the president, surrounded by enablers in the West Wing, is playing golf, is trading stock, and is decorating his ballroom. It’s a disgrace. All while American families in Georgia and across the country pay more for just about everything as a direct result of his failed economic policy and his failed foreign policy.”

“So, he says what he was referring to was Harp’s role as somebody who actually is there to kind of feed Trump things that he likes to hear, whether it’s true or not,” Phillip said, turning to Bill Stepien, a former White House aide in Trump’s first term and the president’s campaign manager in 2020. “I also wonder, Bill, why the freakout? I mean, I have rarely seen the White House in this kind of form. And I can imagine that some of it has to do with, this is actually somebody who’s legitimately very important to the president, which kind of speaks to what Jon Ossoff’s saying.”

Stepien ripped Ossoff, eliciting an incredulous response from Keith Boykin, who worked in the first Clinton administration:

STEPIEN: The follow-up there from the senator should’ve been an apology, because I agree. It was below the belt. The reason for the freakout, the reason for the freak out–

BOYKIN: You worked for Donald Trump!

STEPIEN: The reason–

BOYKIN: You worked for Donald Trump! How can you say anything is below the belt when you worked for Donald Trump in the White House?!

STEPIEN: The reason for the freakout by the Trump–

BOYKIN: That’s outrageous!

STEPIEN: –administration is because it was below the belt. Staff–

STEPIEN: John Ossoff ran for office. Donald Trump ran for office. Criticize them, put a spotlight on them, talk about them. She’s she’s a government staffer.

BOYKIN: She was on the plane with them when they left Turkey.
