MSNBC’s Norah O’Donnell: Anti-Religious Freedom Sentiment Behind Both 9/11 Attacks And Opponents Of NYC Mosque

video

The proposed Islamic center several blocks from Ground Zero has fallen into a perfect political storm of national tragedy, touchy international relations, and mid-August heat, and everyone with an opinion on the matter seems to be taking their arguments to the extreme. The latest to seemingly make an outrageous comparison is MSNBC’s Norah O’Donnell, who uses an analogy that involves those who oppose the construction of the mosque and the masterminds behind the 9/11 attacks.

Debating the much-talked-about issue, and especially Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid‘s reaction, with regular contributor Pat Buchanan on today’s Morning Joe, O’Donnell objected to the possibility that President Obama and Mayor Mike Bloomberg were getting into what Buchanan called “political concrete” by supporting the right of those building the center to do so.

“When did we stop praising politicians for doing what is right even when it’s not politically expedient?” she asked rhetorically. Suggesting that it was unjust for them to suffer political consequences since “the reason everybody is groaning all the time about our politicians is because they’re such hacks and nobody stands up for what’s right,” she concluded saying that “somebody has to say that we’re not going to act like the people who stole freedom from Americans, the people who attacked us.” Her point seemed to have been that religious intolerance was behind both sentiments, but it’s a tricky analogy that leaves room for the more vocal opponents of the mosque to stretch the argument to substitute her description of a general anti-religious freedom sentiment with a moral equivalency between of the people who oppose the mosque with those who orchestrated 9/11. Sentiment aside, cable news soundbite culture makes putting the 9/11 attackers anywhere near the opponents of the mosque rhetorically is a dangerous game. It’s not like we haven’t seen equally stretched out misinterpretations in this debate before.

This is why I don’t watch MSNBC, these people are out of control. They talk about freedom but only when it comes to Muslims. What about the right to protest? In America we don’t answer to the government, the government answers to us. I predict that the people who voted for the 9/11 mosque will not be reelected. Even a blind man like Patterson can see that siding with the mosque is bad business.

She got it wrong. It’s not that people opposing the mosque are “acting” like the terrorists, but rather they’re reacting to what the terrorists did in the wrong way.

I think the broader point is about Islam. The terrorists who attacked us would love it if our government and our people branded Islam as the enemy of Western civilization, because it means we would be distracted. If we can’t separate the moderates from the radicals, we’re in danger.

Conservative Muslims have already spoken out. They, too, believe in the principles of small government and individual liberty, but they are actually consistent on religious liberty. Leading conservative Muslims sent a letter to GOP leaders asking them to stop the attacks on Islam.

This isn’t about politics. We were attacked by al-Qaeda. If we allow a mosque to be built near the site where they attacked us, it would be a pretty big “fuck you” to the terrorists. And who wouldn’t want to say “fuck you” to the terrorists?

(And by the way, if this was merely a proximity issue, how come mosques are being opposed in Staten Island, Wisconsin, Tennessee, and California?)

File this under the heading, “things you won’t hear about on Mediaite”:

Arab TV Director: Ground Zero Mosque would be ‘Monument’ for Terrorists

The director of Al-Arabiya TV, a popular Arab-language news station, wrote that “Muslims never asked for” the proposed mosque at Ground Zero, and “do not care about its construction,” in a column for London daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat on Aug. 16.

“I can’t imagine that Muslims [actually] want a mosque at this particular location, because it will become an arena for the promoters of hatred, and a monument to those who committed the crime,” wrote Al-Arabiya director Abd Al-Rahman al-Rashid in the column, which was translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute. “Moreover, there are no practicing Muslims in the area who need a place to worship, because it is a commercial district. Is there anyone who is [really] eager [to build] this mosque?”

Al-Rashid said that President Barack Obama’s support of the mosque was similar to the administration’s previous decision to close Guantanamo Bay and try suspected terrorists as civilians. “”Muslims do not [really] yearn [to build] a mosque near the 9/11 cemetery, nor do they care whether bin Laden’s cook is tried in a civilian court [or a military one],” said al-Rashid, noting that “tens of thousands of Muslims, likewise accused of extremism, are imprisoned in [even] worse conditions in the Muslim countries.”

According to the director, Muslims care about issues that impact “the destinies of [entire] peoples,” such as the creation of a Palestinian state.

“The last thing Muslims want today is to build a religious center that provokes others, or a symbolic mosque that people will visit as a [kind of] museum next to a cemetery,” said al-Rashid.

Al-Arabiya TV is based out of the United Arab Emirates, and is a direct competitor with Al-Jazeera, another Arab-language news station. Al-Arabiya “is consistently rated among the top pan-Arab stations by Middle East audiences,” reported BBC News in 2003.

According to Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol, al-Rashid’s column “should mean the end of plans for a mosque near Ground Zero.”

“Mr. Al-Rashid supports President Obama’s stand for the mosque in principle (as he supports Obama-like or even beyond-Obama-like policies with respect to the Middle East). He’s no neocon. But his practical case against building the mosque is irrefutable,” wrote Kristol on the Weekly Standard website on Aug. 17. “It should lead well-meaning liberals to join with us dastardly conservatives (well, it would be too painful for them to join with us—they can simply act in parallel, on their own, while continuing to denounce us) in calling for the organizers to shelve the plans for a mosque at this site.”

Now consider: What always happens at a mosque, like the Monster Mosque that is now destined to rise in place of those capitalist pig symbols of the Twin Towers? I’m glad you asked that question, because it is the crux of Obama’s total and abject surrender to fascist Islamism. What happens punctually every single Friday night at your basic Wahhabi mosque is precisely the same hate sermon that you can see on your computer screen right here. That’s their job. That’s what “Islam” means: It is total surrender to the commands of Allah, including making war against your basic infidel. If any devout Muslim says it ain’t so, just ask him what’s been going on in the Sudan for the last twenty years.

Muslim imams have been preaching Holy War against non-believers from the 7th century onward, and they didn’t even need a mega-mosque to do it. But as Josef Goebbels explained so clearly, having modern, industrialized media at your disposal makes it so much easier to brainwash an entire nation in record time. That’s why the Saudi Supremos train new Wahhabi imams to go out and set up Monster-Mosques in all the big cities of the West. If you doubt it, go to the sources. It’s not a secret. They are happy to tell you all about it, because they know they’ve got the West suckered good. They use our own constitutional protections against us. They call what they do “freedom of religion,” but they never get the “freedom for other people’s religion” part. It never seems to translate.

Now, what is interesting about our Current Occupant is that he’s been subjected to lifelong propaganda himself. Once upon a time, Barry Soetoro was a cute little tyke, no doubt, and then a whole bunch of adults — Stalinists, Muslims, Jeremiah Wright — subjected him to decades of consistent anti-American propaganda. It’s the one thing both the Stalinists and the Muslims could agree on: America No, Fidel Si! If we could look into Obama’s unconscious we would find all those slogans he’s heard all his life, over and over and over again. They are just on automatic. They pop out if he doesn’t ride herd on them.

When little Barry lived in Jakarta before the age of ten, he saw the aftermath of an enormous civil war, at least as horrific as our own Civil War. Perhaps 200,000 people were killed, either by the biggest Communist Party outside of China at the time or by the Indonesian army in alliance with…Islamic fundamentalists. One of the bloodiest massacres in recent history, and little Barry was brought to Jakarta to live there by Mom and Step-Dad for four years, age six to ten.

Propaganda, anybody? Hate preachers? No wonder Obama chose to sit at the feet of Jeremiah Wright for twenty years after Harvard Law School. It must have sounded just like Old Home Week to him.

We need to show the rest of the world that we are not suckers .

Norah is way too dumb to talk about this subject with any semblance of nuance. I actually don’t think she is being malicious. She is trying to be profound but it blows up in her face, which is the typical result when over-confident stupid people with no self-awareness try to sound smart.

Two realities keep me from getting too upset about anything I hear on MSNBC: (1) Norah’s career trajectory will eventually take her to the CW affiliate in Topeka doing weather and traffic on the 5s, and (2) Morning Joe’s total viewers couldn’t fill a South American soccer stadium.

So should the Burlington conversion be allowed? Should American soil become base for the calls to a sky father born of a decidedly swarthy semetic clan? I’m glad you asked that question because it sits at the heart of why we all follow the tubes to mediaite tonight… On any average night the finger plucked howls of advocates of sky fathers clash… “let my father hear our praise, for the other admires only warriors or human compost”… But such is the abject surrender to fundamentalism… The mediaite glows brightly when our kin affirm… For the fundamentalist takes delight at certainty while balking with barks and whistles at the foreign… That is their job… It is the abdication of reason and the embrace of inherited bias… Just ask any Sunday School student where the dinosaurs have gone.

The sky fathers passed down rules in the ages of bronze and iron, as civilizations demands brought the bands of humanity into hubs of compliance. The leaders of the emerging hubs quickly clung to their regional sky fathers, parasites sucking for strength. The modern world provided enough centripetal energy that digital tubes were employed to share the sweet succor of affirmation and a platform for protected barking. It’s not a secret, the openly advertise their bias… They call this the information age, but it is the age of “my information”… They never seem to understand he value of others thinking…

Now what is interesting about Apostle Jones is that he was raised in fundamentalism. Baby Grammatico, in tiny tailored trench no doubt, grew up in a country where people believed that sky father copulated with a young virgin preempting a dusty young husband, that dinosaurs were once saddled sharply, that the descendants of Ham were eternally cursed. Reason No! Faith Yes! Hearing it over and over again quite nearly compelled him to develop a secret hate for knowledge and a reflexive love for the simple “truth”.

When the Apostle was still a young man in his twenties he lived through a great civil conflagration that saw a confusing mix of lies and half truths, war and protest, riots and assassinations. Can you say propaganda, charismatic leaders, faulty arguments and distraction?

Now he sits at the feet of Breitbart, watching shortened sections of film and declaring certain judgements.

This is what happens when people get their news from the Daily Show. Jon Stewart, like you, are wrong. Wrong. The proposed community center includes a mosque. I didn’t get this from some right wing site. It was in the New York Times, for god’s sake.

Joe Scarborough is a gutless hypocrite. For two days Joe has ranted and raved about how the hyperbole from those opposing the mosque is offensive. Now, Norah does the exact same thing and he doesn’t say an effing word. Of course, he didn’t say anything when MSNBC’s own Olbermann donned an OReilly mask and did a Nazi salute, either. With a 15-acre plot of land now in its possession, the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro aims to create a full-service prayer center complete with not only a mosque, but outdoor sports fields, pavilions and playgrounds, educational facilities, a multi-purpose facility, a gym and a cemetery.
The goal, according to the center’s website, is “to improve the practice, knowledge and understanding of Islam among all people and elevate the image of Islam” by providing “correct information from accredited sources about Islam.”
But one of the center’s board members would also like to expand Islam through a holy war, according to his MySpace page.
Mosaad Rawash was suspended from the center’s board last month pending an investigation into allegations that he supports Hamas and radical Islam, after the Investigative Project on Terrorism unveiled controversial comments and photos it said were found on an old version of Rawash’s MySpace page.
According to the Investigative Project, a nonprofit research group aimed at investigating Islamic terrorist and extremist groups, the page included an Arabic pledge to join Palestinians in a holy war to reclaim their “right to Jerusalem.”

    The Memphis Islamic Center
The Memphis Islamic Center is gearing up to create “a multipurpose Islamic Center to serve the needs of Muslims in the Memphis area and beyond,” according to its website.
But critics wonder exactly what that means, especially given the center’s newest hire: Sheikh Yasir Qadhi.
Qadhi, the dean of academic affairs at the AlMaghrib Institute, a weekend seminary where instructors travel to teach advanced Islamic studies, made headlines in 2001 with a speech in which he referred to the Holocaust as “false propaganda” and pointed to Jewish people’s “crooked nose and blond hair” as evidence that they “are not a Semitic people.”
    Islamic Center of Tennessee
The Islamic Center of Tennessee is so anxious to move forward with its plan to convert a movie theater in Antioch into a massive mosque and community center that it has a countdown to its closing date – down to the millisecond — on the front page of its website.
    But not everyone’s excited.
Though the center has a contract for the purchase of the building, some Antioch residents have signed a petition asking the property’s owners to sell instead to Nashville State Community College, which also submitted a bid on the space.
Petition organizer Karen Johnson told the Nashville City Paper that the move was sparked out of concern that a mosque would inject less business activity into the struggling Antioch area than the school.
But anti-terrorism consultant Patrick Poole says residents should also be concerned about one of the Islamic center’s directors, Awadh Binhazim.
Binhazim, a Muslim chaplain at Vanderbilt University and a director at Islamic Center of Tennessee, made headlines in January when he said that as a Muslim, he had no choice but to “go with what Islam teaches,” which is that homosexuality “is punishable by death.”

“Mr. President this is not about religious freedom. It is about the importance of the World Trade Center site to the psyche of the American People.

The WTC site is so important to the American psyche that we built a beautiful memorial there. Oh, wait, it’s been 9 years and we haven’t built anything. It’s still a hole in the ground.

I’m not buying this ‘it’s hallowed ground’ argument. Our actions (or lack there of) speak louder than those screaming against the mosque.

Brunetts should shun her, she is giving them the same stereotype as the old dumb blonde stereotype.
If you listen closely, you can hear the air blowing through her head.

‘This guy needs to do some research; it’s a community center, no more a mosque than a church is a YMCA.’ This is what happens when people get their news from the Daily Show. Yet, he went ape shi*t over Gingrich’s holocaust comment.

Well said! Conservatives come up and hug him? Just make sure they are not named Judas there, Joe.

Comment like this idiot’s unfortunately typify how out of touch much of the liberal media in this country is. Obsessed with political correctness (but bereft of honesty and common sense), they spew the most ridiculous asinine nonsense (think Keith (sl)oberman, Rachel Madcow, etc., etc.), with straight faces, ostensibly in the name of “journalism”.

Has the irony of this mosque firestorm occurred to even 1 of these media p.c. slurpers? I mean you have the most intolerant people in the world, who not just don’t allow other houses of worship, but regularly murder anyone who doesn’t agree with their religion, and who murdered 3000 innocent Americans in the worst attack in American history, demanding tolerance!

Noranus McDonald and the other mindless airheads from the almost comically wrong MSNBC “all-star” list would be just a pathetic joke for her stupidity if she weren’t given such a wide audience by virtue of her position on this Network, which has truly become the poster child for politically correct idiocy.
