Pat Robertson: Is Crack In Washington Monument A “Sign Of The Lord”?

Video

And now we turn to The 700 Club‘s resident seismologist, Pat Robertson. Take it away, Pat!

This week, CBN’s flagship program did a week-long special series on “The Sign of the Times.” Well, talk about synergy, because this week has brought us an earthquake on the East Coast and an impending hurricane. After the earthquake hit, you might remember reports that the Washington Monument sustained a minor crack.

Pat Robertson wondered if it was really all the hurricane’s fault, or if the crack was a sign from God. However, he was careful to preface his remarks with the following:

“I don’t want to get weird on this…”

Naturally. Speculate all you want on the supernatural causes of mysterious cracks, but let’s not have things getting weird. Robertson continues:

It seems to me the Washington Monument is a symbol of America’s power. It has been the symbol of our great nation. We look at that monument and we say, ‘This is one nation under God.’ Now there’s a crack in it. There’s a crack in it, and it’s closed up. Is that a sign from the Lord, is it something that has significance or is it just a result of an earthquake? You judge.

Are we ever going to get through a natural disaster without Pat Robertson weighing in? Because I feel like this has happened before

Watch Robertson’s full remarks below, courtesy of CBN:

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, no!

    Next?

when did the Washington monument become the symbol of one nation under god?

Is there anyone with there head up their ass further than Pat Robertson? Well besides, StonePark and Norbert on here?

Pat Robertson: Is Crack In Washington Monument A “Sign Of The Lord”?

No. But it sure is a sign that the supposed president of the United States of America should have gotten his punk azs back to Washington three days ago….instead of when he feels like it.

  • i420

Is Robert’s delirium a sign from the big imaginary whatever in the sky?

Nah….but it is for certain confirmation that he should be admitted into the nearest psychiatric hospital.

  • South East Asian

Americans need to keep their religious fanatics away from political positions or anything constitutional.

    By hook or by crook.

  • The Real Royal Emperor

There are few edifices in any city in the world as ugly as the Washington Monument. The capitol has strength, the White House, grace, the Lincoln Memorial, solidity, the Vietnam Wall, power, the Jefferson Memorial, great beauty and refinement; the Roosevelt Memorial, tranquility and awe. The Washington Monument? A giant concrete grey phallic symbol. I am sure God has very little to do with it.

  • The Real Royal Emperor

Robertson is one of yours, Nutso. You need to show some loyalty.

  • Harry Flashman

    No.

It is a sign there was an eathquake that put a crack in a building that is 125 years old. I hate it when people like Robertson make comments like this. This type of stupidity just gives people ammunition to mock Christianity.

Do us all a favor and think before you speak, Robertson.

Haven’t watched Robertson since he lost the great Robertson/ Van Impe “flame war” of 99… Pat’s last post calling Rexella, “…satan’s harlot scarecrow” could only be considered bad taste of the troll variety.  That having been said, Pat appears to be correct on this one.  Otto Van Bismark introduced social welfare programs in the 1880′s… what happened then?

Are you going to see another movie this week and come back in here and lecture us on American history again?

    LOL

The Washington Monument was built to commemorate the first U.S. president, General George Washington

  • Anonymous

Oh, you figured that the Washington monument was named after George Washington, did ya?

Now, try to think really hard about the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials and see if you can guess whom those were named after.

Hint: it wasn’t Obama or Al Sharpton!

Extra credit: Who is buried in Grant’s tomb?

  • Alexandra

Yes Pat it is a sign, and so is the one in your ass!

  • http://twitter.com/Good_Lt Good Lt.

I’m reminded of a great Sam Kinison bit where Sam ripped Pat Robertson for implying that the lord told him to run for President, countering that it would be hilarious to be God and send messages to Robertson for him to check his tire pressure in the middle of the night.

  • Anonymous

Why is this even being covered?  Was it on one of the news channels?  Why aren’t Jim Wallace’s ridiculous points mocked here?  That was rhetorical, I know why they aren’t.

For the record, I think Pat Robertson’s points are ridiculous too.

  • Anonymous

    lol

  • Jooce81

why’s that?? didn’t realize he was a mason, is he going to personally fix the crack in the monument.. and I’m willing to bet that “punk azs” would bitch slap you up and down the street

  • insideguy

Yes it is. See God only dislikes us a little bit and puts cracks in things. He hates the japanese and Hatians and likes to wipe them out in large numbers. Oh he hates Navy seals as well and lets them get shot down Islamist facist. But he loves the green bay packers because he let them win the super bowl. Sigh this guy is such a moron and he’s on your side righties be proud of it.

  • Jackie0413

The President is always on duty – whether he is on vacation or not.  He carries the WH with him and is always informed and briefed on current events.  He is always ready.  Why would he need to rush back to Washington ?   The haters just keep on hating and making ridiculous demands which they would never have criticized ‘W’ for.    Check the facts on vacation time for other Presidents.

“Pat Robertson: Is Crack In Washington Monument A “Sign Of The Lord”?”

Clearly, the Wash Monument isn’t the only thing that’s CRACKED.

I think I’ve found out the “secret” to roberson’s God-messages. On New Years day a friend (who happens to be a gay, lunatic-left d-cRAT socialist ILLEGAL immigrant) tricked me into smoking a huge doobie – and as soon as I finished it, GOD spoke to me also. HE said that robertson is a publicity-who’re who will do and say anything to attract attention to get donation$. I also think HE said something about roberston eventually burning in hell, but since I’m not use to this common lunatic-left addiction, I passed out before HE finished.

  • Anonymous

Trade you Robertson for Norah O’ Donnell , plus a bag of brand new bats .

  • Walt

What does Pat Robertson, the tea party (base of the Republican Party), and the right wing religious mentality around the world (inluding Jewish Zionists, and Islamic extremists) have in common.  They are all birds of the same feather whose ideology is steeped in anger, hatred, violence and overall idiocracy (extreme ignorance) who justify their sociopathic behavior by calling it religion.

  • Anonymous

He has become so irrelevant and it shows.

  • Tony the Fist

Sociopathic behavior like giving to the poor? Those bastards.

  • Anonymous

You’d think a structure honoring a Freemason would have a higher craftsmanship.

  • Nature Freak

Is Pat Robertson comparing Crack to the Lord? I get it! Symbolic indeed.

For Eucharist does Pat Robertson’s church pass out Crack rocks? Holy Communion!

It would explain many of Pat’s weird statements through the years.

  • Nature Freak

“a friend (who happens to be a gay, lunatic-left d-cRAT socialist ILLEGAL immigrant”

I don’t believe you of all people have a Gay Liberal Democrat Illegal Immigrant friend.

Actually, I don’t believe you have any friends period! Your only friend is your imagination.

  • Nature Freak

I guess the Masons are not all powerful.
There goes a couple of conspiracy theories in flames.

  • Walt

Like irrationally voting for politicians who would eliminate the safety nets for the poor and, ignoring consumer protectionism, and cutting taxes on the rich who are not the job creators as is falsely preached as a “talking point” on the propaganda right wing network.  For foolishly following false prophets like Pat Robertson, Pat Hagee, Jerry Falwell, James Dobson, and any other religious authoritarian that fits the bill.  They certainly don’t own the charity of giving and that does not excuse them for their other sins.

  • Nature Freak

    Fair weather friends indeed!

    Get him back to the”Home”,pronto!

  • Walt

Considering the tea party has fallen out of favor with the majority of
Americans.  Considering all the damage the tea party politicians have
done since the midterm elections and the fact that they are just
crooked, self-serving politicians who is part of the fabric of the
ignorant base of the Republican Party… it makes perfect common sense.
You might want to think about changing your moniker.  You are a sitting
    target for ridicule.

  • Anonymous

Well just off the top of my head I would say: Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Rangle, Schumer, those “Black Caucus” Democrats that mouthed off this week (can’t recall their names), Biden, and the entire membership of Congress….Democrats, Republicans and Independents.

  • Anonymous

No maybe a crack in your mind.

  • Anonymous

Nobody.  Grant and his wife are entombed there, but not buried. (I know, irrelevant, but it was always my favorite trick question.)

  • Anonymous

Any chance that God could maybe give us a sign that’s not so
destructive.  When my roommate in college needed to tell me something,
he would write it on the dry erase board and not bash in the microwave
with a baseball bat.  Just sayin’, God.

I agree and the same goes for Overboard Lefty Atheists that want to sue everyone for any type of religious (Historical or not) icons or imagery.

  • cdnhawk

Everyone should stop responding to this complete idiot…..maybe he will go away

  • CLTStraightGuy

Like it or not historically God has a great deal to do with the imagery in the Capital.

  • CLTStraightGuy

You may have been raised a Christian but your synopsis of Christianity being as “ideology is steeped in anger, hatred, violence and overall idiocracy
(extreme ignorance) who justify their sociopathic behavior by calling it
    religion.”

Means you didn’t learn a thing from your Sunday School teacher :P

  • CLTStraightGuy

In answering your ignorance and not in defense of Pat.  Robertson is not a Catholic, he is a Evangelical Protestant, and there is no Eucharist in the Protestant belief within communion.  Communion is only a symbol of the crucifixion, and death and resurrection of Christ, not the ideology of the blood and body of Christ becoming one with the elements.
Could they pass out crack in a communion service? Well that idea in jest is not as real as the fact that there are a lot more people that are not religious that practice substance abuse on a daily basis.

It’s usually the “Religious People” that help people out of that lifestyle and start over.

  • CLTStraightGuy

I agree that was a bit much.

  • CLTStraightGuy

I agree that was a bit much.

Right, and prior too JFK, most Blacks were Republicans.  You Dems forget that the man who signed and put into effect the Emancipation Proclamation and enacted it, was a Republican.
You also forget about the Democratic Congress of 1924 … look it up and get an education.

  • CLTStraightGuy

Thoughts of Delirium coming from a Poster with a cannabis leaf as their icon…

Only saying it’s kind of hypo critical.

  • CLTStraightGuy

LOL, that was a great quip.  In defense of the Masons, they are only men.

  • CLTStraightGuy

I think it’s quite genius the way that the masons built the reflection pool to mirror the monument.

I do like Washington D.C. not necessarily the politicians but the Capital itself has a very strong influence of a type of Majesty.

As American’s I don’t think we have a great enough appreciation for it.  The way it is laid out and built, it is something to look at marvel, and take pride in that is still the greatest seat of power for the Free World.

  • Sam_the_Geek

Oh contrar, it depends on which branch of the Protestant church you are in. He probably calls it the Lord’s Supper not communion and doesn’t believe the Jesus bread and welch’s literally becomes the Body but, Eucharist nonetheless.

Besides it’s a joke. You know, meant to be funny not factual?

  • Sam_the_Geek

I would have been sooooooo disappointed if Pat Robertson hadn’t weighed in on the earthquake, hurricane, etc. All is right with the world.

  • Valkyrie101

Its obvious that Pat has been watching Glenn Beck.

  • expatpatriot

Pat, the fact that you’re old and getting stupider by the day is god’s way of showing he really doesn’t like you.

  • expatpatriot

I’d have to disagree. Surrounded by all that ornately carved marble (and similar stone), the pure geometry of the Washington Monument is architecturally stunning.

An equivalently brilliant structure nearby is the Vietnam Vets memorial, which I’m old enough to remember as having been controversial when the design was unveiled, and has turned out to be one of the most beautiful and moving memorials ever.

Thank you Pat.  I wish you would buy the Crystal Cathedral and make it earthquake proof.

  • http://smallthoughtsfromasmallmind.wordpress.com/ Small Thoughts

Robertson’s god cracked a small brick in a 100+ year old monument while some
dung eating mullah gave credit for the entire earthquake to Allah. If these
religious leaders are correct, Christendom’s god is clearly less powerful than
Islam’s god. Have we been on the wrong side all these years?

Attention all Commentors — or should that be “comment taters”: How about sticking to media coverage of politics instead of just politics? You are making the Mediaite website just another juvenile exchange of crap. Do you people actually expect to change each other’s minds?

  • CLTStraightGuy

We are talking about Robertson, and he calls it Communion, Let me rephrase, Evangelical Protestants don’t believe in the Eucharist also known as transubstantiation.  That is purely a Catholic belief, although there are other Protestant denominations that lean that way, most like Luther, do not but rather recognize the symbolism and not the act of transubstantiation.

And if you are mocking the symbolism I think you are out of line.

  • CLTStraightGuy

    Wow, let’s see… strap a bomb to yourself and let’s find out…

  • Vasallese

This is not a site where people expect to change each other’s minds. THis is a site where most people do not use their real names, so they can spew their hatred, and their racism without us knowing who they are .  They know their words are disgusting and would not be able to handle it if someone called them on their offensive rants. There are a lot of logical, nice people who read this. Unfortunately, there are a lot of juveniles who see things in black and white, no grays, no colors. These idiots are missing out on a lot.

  • CLTStraightuGuy

I think that is a question for Mediate and the writers choosing to post what it’s topics and news worthy material is…
Are they trying to screw with peoples minds, ethics, reasoning by showing just what many could consider outlandish behavior, while at the same time avoiding the other positive attributes and accomplishments of certain people or sects?

I think we all look for the truth, I just tend not to believe the people that lash out, mock, scream, and swear telling everyone they are intellectuals and not to pay a mind to anyone else s observations but their own.

  • Sam_the_Geek

“The Eucharist , also called Holy Communion, the Sacrament of the Altar, the Blessed Sacrament, the Lord’s Supper, and other names, is a Christian sacrament or ordinance.” Wiki
So it’s just a matter of semantics but Eucharist is synonymous with communion and Lord’s Supper. Most of the evangelical denoms tend to call it Lord’s Supper, Communion being to “High Church” sounding.Except for Missouri Synod Lutherans, mainstream Protestants don’t buy the transubstantiation thing. Sorry if I was out of line, at my church we tend to call it the Jesus bread and Jesus juice, I know we’re a bit sacrilegious. And I’m a bit off religion right now so pardon my bitterness.

  • Anonymous

Yes, Pat. God is all about subtlety. It’d be just plain showing off to somersault the monument through the air and drop it on your crazy ass…although he might gain some new fans were he to do so.

Ok, lets assume I consume cannabis, and that when I do. I see and hear things that aren’t there.

How exactly does the observation about Robert’s hypocritical? I didn’t say he can’t or shouldn’t consume cannabis. Nor did I say that he isn’t allowed his delirious delusions.

    So…again, hypocritical…how?

And please realize that that was rhetorical.
