Rep. Rangel Refuses To Answer Luke Russert’s ‘Dumb Questions’ About Ethics Violations

Rep. Charlie Rangel is in hot water for some shady behavior with his taxes that has gotten him congressional reprimands for ethics violations. Apparently the whole experience has made him a bit crabby, because when asked about the taxes on his properties in the Dominican Republic by MSNBC’s Luke Russert, he refuses to answer what “you know is a dumb question” and laments that NBC was once “a channel that did have some respect.”

It didn’t appear that Rangel recognized Russert at first, responding to his question with “you’re just trying to make copy” and asking him what station he is from. When Russert answers “NBC,” Rangel appears surprised and remarks “you’re young, I guess you need to make a name for yourself,” perhaps hoping to end the matter there.

Russert pressed on, however, prompting Rangel to finally tell him “you know it’s a dumb question and I’m not going to answer it,” and then talking, almost to himself about how “that doesn’t really sound like NBC asking this dumb questions. It just shows what has really happened to a channel that did have some respect.”

Russert tweeted video of the incident out a few moments ago, so he doesn’t seem too roughed up by the experience.

“Rep. Charlie Rangel is in hot water”

A House investigative committee on Thursday charged New York Rep. Charles Rangel with multiple ethics violations, a blow to the former Ways and Means chairman and an election-year headache for Democrats.

Luke , don’t you know NBC is supposed to be in the bag for all Democrats ?

Luke , ask Traitor Joe Klein about his turnimg over Journalist to Tucker Carlson . He’ll deny it , of course , like he denied writing that trashy Primary Colors .

And this is the guy making tax laws for the rest of us! I guess its okay for him to raise taxes for everybody else, when he lies about his own income when he files his 1040 form. I guess I should be shocked, but nothing about the current crop of Democrats would surprise me any more. When they started passing trillion dollar spending bills without reading them, I realized that we had pretty much hit bottom.

Luke, you MUST be a racist. Why else would you ask a black man a question?

  • Thumb up 16 Thumb down 8

Rangle is just the tip of the iceberg. Reid and Pelosi are the same as he is. Rangle is typical of all members of the black caucus, you are just not allowed to ask because he is black. Even O’Reilly was in the tank for Rangle.

What do you call a guy in a $5,000 suit and $10,000 worth of jewelry standing next to a new (every 2 years) Sedan Deville in the middle of Harlem?

Charlie Rangel, servant of the people.

Race is always involed when a black politician is involed. They always use the race card. I refuse to protect racists just because they are black.

Sorry, Luke, he mistook you for a FOX news reporter. Apparently, you didn’t get the message, when he asked you what station you were from. His response about “getting some respect” meant that reporters from your station, MSNBC, aren’t supposed to ask difficult questions about taxes to corrupt Democratic congressman with his level of seniority. Substitute “difficult” for “dumb” and his meaning is quite clear. Questions that embarass Mr. Rangel or other high-ranking Democrats are dumb by definition, since MSNBC will not air them or the non-answers given, if they know what is good for them(And Mr. Rangel does.) Mr. Rangel belongs in a prison cell, but his political power has prevented anything from happening until now.

Well, BFD, I have a modest proposal for you then. How about we arrest ALL corrupt congressmen/women found to be taking bribes, cheating on their taxes, snorting cocaine, etc, without regard to their race/ethnicity, seniority, sexual orientation, gender, political party, leadership positions, or how much they love the children. Let’s start with Mr. Rangel and put him in jail. Feel free to help with names from either side of the aisle to join him.

Charilie Rangel probably is a crook; there’s not much doubt about it, based on his hubris.

That said, though, what the heck is wet-behind-the-ears, barely an intern Luke Russert doing covering one of the biggest stories on Capitol Hill? EVERYONE liked his Dad, for sure. But how the heck does that qualify him to go up on Capitol Hill and cover stories he probably barely comprehends?

Rangel was right to cut him down. He doesn’t know what he’s t

Luke Russert is truly awful. God awful. He’s awkward as hell on camera and dumber than dirt. His dad is rolling in his grave over his son being handed a job so many other qualified talented people worked hard their whole lives for. Instead, insert the fat man child. Msnbc is tarnishing Tim Russert’s image by pulling this stunt-and hiring this completely unqualified, barely graduated from college nitwit-absolutely IS a stunt. It would embarrass and horrify his old man.

Come on now, let’s not beat up on the kid. Obviously hiring him was a nod to his dad (a stunt as you called it), but I think Tim would be very proud of his son.

I also think the Today show hiring Bush’s daughter, Jenna and CBS hiring Scott’s daughter, Ayla Brown were stunts, and they have received some unfair and harsh criticisms. Obviously nepotism played a major roll in their hirings, and none of them are doing necessarily outstanding jobs, but they are doing ok. And they will only improve with experience.

Sure, most newbies start at local stations, and work their way up. These kids were handed sweet jobs, no doubt about it, but I don’t think it is always easy being the child of a famous person, either.

We don’t need to unnecessarily beat up on them, do we? Criticize his job performance if you want, but I think your comments were too harsh.

Sen. John Kerry skips town on sails tax

Sen. John Kerry, who has repeatedly voted to raise taxes while in Congress, dodged a whopping six-figure state tax bill on his new multimillion-dollar yacht by mooring her in Newport, R.I.

    Most ethical congress evah!!!

That’s getting very scant coverage too, as expected. Much likeTeddy the “swimmer” was always given a pass for keeping vast holdings (read $$$$) in the Caymans avoiding gazillions in taxes…oh and that car wreck thingy comes to mind too!

On top of Charlie’s measly $179k a year salary, his per diem and reimbursements (read: weekly haircuts, gas, flights, food, postage, expensive clothing etc etc etc) amount conservatively to another $500k worth..

and his staff salary for 2009? A measly $1,179,508…..(which to be fair is about average for all 535 congress crooks)

Oh God, why am I getting so upset over this administration…wellll, if this Rangel was Italian & part of a mafia mob he would be living out his years in a jail cell with only memories of the GOOD times. So unfair, look at this man acting like a hollywood star, all duked up & sarcastic to a poor struggling reporter who has the guts to ask questions from this lowlife..just shows you how this administration protects its own..had he been white, he would be GONE. This is why I say it is REVERSE discrimination all around. He is spending OUR money on his island home, rental properties, etc. How long has this been going on? Remember the black mayor who was caught smoking crack…well,, he was voted in again..Why? He was crooked..He did not deserve to receive taxpayers money for a job he was not fit to fill. Fox news is right..they keep exposing all the crooks in congress and now, the President is thinking about “shutting down or controlling” what appears on the internet. Hello Russia, goodbye America. Things keep getting worse everytime I hear a news report..(usually from Fox) When will this holiday end & get our country back to basics, I’ve got work to do,, I don’t have time to sit at this computer and rant. Who is minding the store in washington? God Bless us! Helen Nordo

Gordon, thank you for a great piece of work exposing this self-avowed socialist (albeit via Freudian slip). I thought you were going to say something about William “Cold Cash” Jefferson, but this is on the mark, too.

By the way, I have for some years pestered my elected representatives when I have heard of any untoward behavior, regardless of party affiliation. Being an independent, I have no qualms about calling them as I see them, even though I pay the price sometimes by being disenfranchised by one party or the other.

It seems always to be racism when a black politician is called on their actions or behavior, or a white person in the judicial system prosecutes an offense to the fullest extent of the law.

As for Mr. Russert, I felt his questions were no more strenuous or challenging than those any reporter might have asked–who is seeking the TRUTH, that is. It was the sophist remark from Mr. Rangel that offended me.
