Report: Meredith Vieira To Leave TODAY Earlier Than Expected

According to a story by Richard Johnson in The Daily, the rumored departure of Meredith Vieira from NBC’s top-rated TODAY may come even earlier than anticipated. “The announcement was to come in the first week of May, and the switch in September, when Vieira’s contract expires. But sources say the timetable has accelerated. The announcement could come as soon as today that Vieira will step down as Matt Lauer’s co-anchor in June.”

NBC had no comment on The Daily‘s story.

It’s unclear why an announcement on the morning show shakeup would come today–or even this week–as the show is overseas covering the royal wedding, which would possibly be overshadowed by the news of Vieira’s departure.

    Whoa! She’s so fired.

I Love Meredith, I hope she stays on The Today Show. Today Show would not be the same without her. She is the best Morning host The Today Show has ever had. I will miss her if she leaves.

She not fired Dumbass. She mat be leaving because of family reasons. Why would they fire her when they are Number 1 in the Ratings. She could still stay, And the Daily is not reliable.

    Won’t be missed.

Sucks getting fired. Hopefully she can collect unemployment.

Meh – I don’t blame her for leaving. She’s been making $15-20 million a year from Today and Millionaire, and unless she spends like Nic Cage, she’s sitting on a gigantic fortune. Now she can hang out and travel with her husband while he’s still well enough. Her hardest decision will be which of her mansions or penthouses she’ll sleep late in.
