“Skank Correspondent” Pat Buchanan Reports Details Of Lindsay Lohan Sentencing

With Willie Geist out today, the job of reading the “News You Can’t Use” on Morning Joe fell to Pat Buchanan.

Dubbed “Skank Correspondent” by Mika Brzezinski, Buchanan gave his report on the pressing stories of the day – Lindsay Lohan and Levi Johnston.

Brzezinski introduced “the skank Lindsay Lohan, Levi Johnston stories,” and asked Buchanan to read the news in his best “cable gal packaging news as garbage imitation.” (We think she meant ‘garbage as news,’ but you get the point.)

Buchanan got serious. “Good evening, this is Walter Cronkite, our lead story tonight – actress Lindsay Lohan has been sentenced to three months in jail,” he said. Later, he talked about Johnston’s Palin apology, saying, “In a statement to People magazine, that’s the place you take a statement like that.”

Morning Joe Executive Producer Chris Licht tweeted a few screenshots of the segment, writing, “fmr. pres. speechwriter Pat Buchanan delivers his most important lines… on LiLo & Levi Johnston.”

Licht also relayed the meaning of the term ‘skank’ to Brzezinski, saying it is a “derogatory term for a usually younger female implying trashiness or tackiness.” “We’re good then, right?” said the co-host.

For a decidedly different take, here’s Dan Abrams on the Today show this morning – and check out Gossip Cop for more details.

Here’s the segment:

Mean while, we have warriors overseas fighting.

As I recall, the term “skank” was less than flattering…

A “Derogatory term for a (usually younger) female, implying trashiness or tackiness, lower-class status, poor hygiene, flakiness, and a scrawny, pockmarked sort of ugliness. May also imply promiscuity, but not necessarily. Can apply to any race, but most commonly used to describe white trash.”

Interesting word to describe a troubled young woman caught up in the throes of her own publicity.

How is that word any different and less injurious than a word that generally describes race or sexual orientation or age bias?

“Old codger” was what I had for the old folks…my point being is that sometimes people act certain ways and it is easy to flippantly group those people into a pre-conceived category.

If another girl called a girl a “skank” when I grew up…that was it….major fight…it was the worst insult.

Mika you seriously come off like the Holier than thou judgmental old fart conservatives you seem to hate. “Troubled,” “exploited product of Hollywood, broken home, addictive parenting,” any of the above would have been far more appropriate for the cable-gal-non-factor hack like herself. Keep it hypocritical Mika. You lose this one.

It never ceases to amaze what people will do or say to keep their faces in the media.

i think people are seriously missing the boat here. i was thrilled to see these guys making so fun of the notion that this story is news at all. in this context, i think they can be as flippant as they want. that’s the whole point.

Miki proves yet again that opinionators (right or wrong) have replaced newscasters.

The story really isn’t that important…so you are right.

Mika just called someone an epithet for a trailer trash whore. If you are going to be that flippant on national television with advertisers watching their money spots…technically, you can do whatever you want.

I have to agree that the Lohan nonsense should not be a story.
Most of us felt sorry for her on the last large breakdown, only to
be reminded soon after, that she is a train wreck in perpetual motion
to which only God can intervene.
To use her in any News Format & take cheap shots, like Mika,
    makes MIKA THE SKANK and
    is degrading
    to said (any) News Network.

…but not a single update on SNOOKIE & THE SITUATION!

    C’mon Pat!!!
