Every year, FORTUNE Magazine runs a list of forty prominent, wildly successful businessmen and entrepreneurs under the age of 40, gawking at their beautiful youth and piles of moneys. This year marks the first time in recent memory, if ever, that a restaurateur has made the list — and now David Chang gets to be mentioned in the same breath as Mark Zuckerberg, Sergey Brin, and the Olsen Twins.
With fifteen restaurants around the world in the Momofuku Restaurant Group, 500 employees, a magazine imprint, and approximately one jillion television appearances a year, Chang ranked 31st on the list, which is an incredible feat, considering that his ramen empire is ranked against entrepreneurs with companies worth billions and billions of technology dollars.
Chang, whose parents had once tried to prevent him from entering the restaurant business, reacted characteristically to the news: “For all the C+ students out there,” he tweeted.
