A famous New York institution deserves a blowout birthday party, and Katz’s Delicatessen is turning 125. So naturally, the deli’s throwing an all-day party at the end of the month, and to celebrate, they’re bringing in…the guy who does kung pao pastrami.
Danny Bowien of Mission Chinese is cooking a charity Shabbat dinner on Friday, May 31, along with Joey Campanaro of The Little Owl and Sarabeth Levine of Sarabeth’s, in what the restaurant calls a “reimagining of Katz’s signature dishes.” Oh god. Ohhhhhhhh god. We’ll let Nora Ephron and Meg Ryan act out our feelings about this:
This isn’t fake. This sounds amazing.
All proceeds from the dinner, which has tiered pricing for all you cheapskates, will go directly to the Henry Street Settlement. For those who may be disinclined to pay money to celebrate Katz’s 125th anniversary, participants in a pastrami-eating contest stand to win $7,500.
