Clarence Thomas Claims Elite Colleges Are ‘Off Limits’ for Right-Wing Voices — But One Pushes Back

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas claimed prominent right-wing voices are essentially barred from elite universities because their conservative views are so loathed by academics.

Thomas vented during a Tuesday interview hosted by the Hoover Institution — a public policy think tank located at Stanford University in California — that the “reality” is conservatives like him are not welcome at schools such as Stanford Law.

“We simply got no audience,” Thomas said about himself and economist Thomas Sowell, a fellow right-winger.

“You know, I have never been to Stanford Law School,” Thomas continued.

Moderator Peter Robinson was stunned to hear it.

“Really?” he said.

Thomas told him that’s just the way it is.

“That’s the world we live in, because there’s certain places that are just presumptively off limits,” Thomas said. “This is the way it works. And that’s true, I mean, I’ve been to Yale Law School, but that’s the way it works. And to say it isn’t, is to lie.”

He added a moment later his and Sowell’s race — both men are Black — was immediately discarded by liberals because of their political views.

“People would discount that because there’s this overriding public view that you’re not supposed to think this way, therefore you’re not Black, therefore you’re discredited, nothing you say matters,” Thomas said.

Thomas said he was happy younger generations get to watch academically verboten commentators like Sowell on YouTube now, because it allows them to “make up their own minds.”

A Stanford University rep pushed back on the justice’s claim about the law school being “off limits” in a statement shared with Fox News.

“We would be honored to host Justice Thomas at Stanford Law School,” the spokesperson said. “The Stanford Constitutional Law Center, directed by Professor Michael McConnell, former Judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, regularly hosts members of the judiciary on campus.”

The spokesperson added the students and faculty “would welcome the opportunity” to hear from Thomas.
