Gwyneth Paltrow is Consciously Uncoupling From Conscious Uncoupling
Gwyneth Paltrow does a lot of conscious uncoupling. In 2014, she brought the phrase into pop culture vernacular when she announced her split from then husband Chris Martin in a blog post that broke the Internet before breaking the internet was a thing. Literally, it crashed the site. Earlier this year, she announced that her eventual plan was to consciously uncouple from her lifestyle website, Goop.
She joined LinkedIn this week and announced that finally, she will be consciously uncoupling from the phrase conscious uncoupling, to that we say, it’s about time. In an interview with the professional networking site, she said that at the time she made the divorce announcement heard ’round the world, she didn’t realize what the public’s reaction would be. Really? She also said that in the future, she wouldn’t handle it the same way.
“It sort of wouldn’t be appropriate now,” she said. “It is a much bigger business and I’m not sure it would be the right place to do something like that. I’m not sure.”
Paltrow says she thought announcing her separation that way in 2014 would be “quiet” and “contained.” Again, really?
We’re glad to be able to put this chapter behind us. Let’s retire “conscious uncoupling” forever now, please.
