Law&Crime Recreates Scenes From Diddy Trial With AI and Official Transcripts
Law&Crime announced that it would provide coverage of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sex trafficking trial by recreating the courtroom using artificial intelligence.
Since cameras are prohibited during federal trials, there will be no real footage from within the courtroom as Combs faces felony charges for sex trafficking and transportation for prostitution.
Because of this, Law&Crime, a legal and true crime media company founded by Mediaite owner Dan Abrams, announced on Monday it would use “AI-generated segments” to “depict the exact words spoken by key witnesses, investigators, and legal figures, ensuring viewers get a factual, real-time understanding of what’s unfolding in the courtroom.”
“Since the public can’t see or hear what’s happening in federal court firsthand, we’re using cutting-edge AI tools to bring these important proceedings to life, based entirely on official transcripts,” said Law&Crime President Rachel Stockman in a statement. “This is a pivotal moment in both popular culture and justice, and our goal is to provide accurate, transparent access to what’s actually being said in that courtroom.”
Law&Crime posted a preview of an AI scene to YouTube on Monday, which included the disclaimer: “The following video was produced by Law&Crime with AI-generated content using real court transcripts from the Sean Combs trial. All of the audio and visuals were recreated using AI to simulate the trial proceedings in the courtroom. Precise body movements, expressions, and hand movements have been presented by AI, but do not exactly mirror what movements transpired in the courtroom. This is an ongoing trial. Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.”
The trial started Monday, and a New York jury heard testimony from a male escort Diddy allegedly hired, as well as an LAPD officer who described seeing Cassie Ventura, who has accused Diddy of horrific abuse, in distress while with him. The prosecution also played for the jury the infamous video of Diddy beating Ventura in a hotel hallway.
Ventura is expected to testify on Tuesday.
