AOC Plays Coy on 2028 Aspirations When Confronted About Campaign-Style Video: ‘Because of My Instagram Posts?’
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) avoided giving a direct answer when confronted this week on a campaign-style video she released that has sparked 2028 talk.
“Are you thinking about running for president after the campaign-style video you put out?” Fox News Digital asked Ocasio-Cortez at the Capitol on Tuesday.
“Pardon?” the lawmaker asked while walking down a hallway.
After repeating the question, Ocasio-Cortez replied, “Because of my Instagram posts?”
Ocasio-Cortez is one of many Democrats floated as a potential 2028 presidential candidate, especially as she’s drawn large crowds across the country — along with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) — through the “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, aimed at opposing the President Donald Trump’s administration.
Future presidential talk around the New York congresswoman increased after she posted a video to social media that many saw as a campaign-like message.
“I’m a girl from the Bronx,” Ocasio-Cortez says in the video, which includes her and Sanders talking to large crowds. “To be welcomed here in this state, all of us together, seeing our common cause, this is what this country is all about.”
While speaking with Fox News Digital, Ocasio-Cortez addressed her video by saying, “Frankly, what people should be most concerned about is the fact that Republicans are trying to cut Medicaid right now and people’s healthcare. It’s a danger and that’s really what my central focus is.
Ocasio-Cortez was also asked about her recent polling success in terms of her political future in the Democratic Party. A Yale University survey released this month showed that the progressive lawmaker was the second most popular choice for Democrats to run in 2028, behind former Vice President Kamala Harris.
“To me, this moment is about campaigns or elections or about politics. It’s about making sure people are protected,” she said in response to the polling. “And we’ve got people that are getting locked up for exercising their First Amendment rights, we’re getting 2-year-olds getting deported into cells in Honduras, we’re getting people about to get kicked off of Medicaid. That, to me, is the most important thing.”
