A massive behind-the-scenes political and public relations campaign is underway to quash calls for President Joe Biden to drop his re-election bid as his team scramble to control fallout following his CNN debate performance, top officials tell Axios.

With the aim to rally and reassure disillusioned Democrats behind their nominee, Biden campaign officials outlined their strategy after weekend meetings in conversations with the outlet’s reporters.

On Monday, Axios listed out the eight point plan that involves dismissing criticism as an overreaction, focus on favorable polls, warning against the chaos of an open convention, limiting internal dissent, leverage the support of top Democrats, calming donors, demonstrating Biden’s vitality, and more shrewdly engaging with the media.

Campaign spokesman Kevin Munoz told Axios: “The aides who prepped the president have been with him for years, often decades, seeing him through victories and challenges. He maintains strong confidence in them.”

Biden, steadfast in his determination to continue his campaign, is buoyed by the support of First Lady Jill Biden and close family members, including Hunter Biden, who met with the president over the weekend for a shoot with celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz.

“They’re all-in, and want him to stay in,” a source close to the Biden family said.

The campaign, sources told Axios, is “charging ahead.”
