BREAKING: 3 Killed, Child Among Several Injured in Seattle Center Food Festival Shooting

Three people were killed and several others injured, including a 2-year-old child, after gunfire erupted at a packed food festival near Seattle’s Space Needle on Sunday evening, prompting a major law enforcement response and an ongoing search for an additional suspect.

The shooting unfolded shortly after 6 p.m. local time at the Seattle Center, where thousands had gathered for the annual Bite of Seattle festival.

Authorities said two people died at the scene, while multiple victims were taken to local hospitals with gunshot wounds. A third victim later died after being admitted for treatment.

Speaking at a late-night press briefing, Seattle Police Assistant Chief Tyrone Davis told reporters investigators believe two people were involved in the attack before one suspect was taken into custody.

Police are now engaged in a search for another individual believed to have been involved in the shooting.

Davis said investigators do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the public.

“There is no outstanding threat to the community,” he said.

The Seattle Fire Department said four people, including the toddler, were transported to Harborview Medical Center from the scene. Another victim later arrived separately at a different hospital with a gunshot wound.

Harborview said all of the patients it initially received had suffered gunshot injuries affecting areas including the arm, leg, abdomen, and lower leg.

Videos shared online captured scenes of panic as festivalgoers fled through vendor stalls after the first shots rang out. Witnesses told CNN they heard multiple rounds of gunfire before crowds began running in all directions. One attendee said people initially believed the noise was fireworks before realizing they were gunshots.

Footage circulating also showed people sheltering inside the Space Needle gift shop as police, firefighters and emergency medical crews converged on the area. Officers from multiple agencies, including the FBI, responded alongside Seattle police, while Washington Governor Bob Ferguson said a state SWAT team had been deployed to assist.

Police said two firearms had been recovered at the scene and urged anyone who witnessed the shooting or captured video to contact investigators.

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson described the attack as “an act of horrific violence” in a statement issued late Sunday, adding that the city “is trying to understand how a gathering built around culture, connection, and joy ended in gunfire.”

“In the days ahead, we will establish what happened and be transparent with the public about what we have learned,” Wilson said. “Tonight, our attention belongs to the people whose lives were taken, those fighting to recover, and the families beside them.”
