Dr Fauci Celebrated ‘Flattering’ Washington Post and NY Times Coverage in Unearthed 2020 Diary: ‘Press Is Going Wild With Me’

Dr. Anthony Fauci watched like a hawk how mainstream outlets like the Washington Post and The New York Times covered him during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic and speculated he had become “the most famous and talked about person” in America, according to newly-released 2020 diary entries.

The diary notes were posted on Saturday by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY). Fauci’s entries indicate he was obsessed with the press and took time to jot down notes on both favorable and unfavorable stories about him, right alongside notes on the rising COVID death toll in the U.S. and abroad.

“Press is going wild with me,” Fauci wrote on March 22, 2020.

He noted right before COVID cases were continuing to “soar,” with 30,000 reported in the U.S., before getting back to his media coverage.

“Front page in Washintgton Post [sic] yesterday and Op Ed by Maureen Dowd in NY Times today about me and my relationship with the POTUS. Profile by Peter Nicholas on me in The Atlantic,”  Fauci wrote.

Nicholas had dubbed Fauci an “instant icon” in the piece.

Fauci then talked about how the media was covering him compared to President Donald Trump.

I am trying in several articles and on TV to clarify that the POTUS is tsalking [sic] about hope for therapies although there are no good data, while I must stick to the science and so fundamentally we are approaching this from different, but not conflicting standpoints.

The press are crucifying the POTUS for “not listening to me and making crazy statements about ‘game-changing’ therapies and praising me fot [sic] stivking [sic] to my guns.

He wrote in the same diary entry there were “many print profiles and features on me. Ridiculous – too numeous [sic] to count!”

One day earlier, Fauci wrote about a “big front page article” in the Washington Post on him.

“Very flattering,” Fauci wrote. “The situation with my national and international fame is explosive and really unimaginable. It is not hyoperbole [sic] to say that today I am the most famous and talked about person in the country and one of the most recognizable peson [sic] in the world.”

He continued, “Countless profiles on me in multiple media. I cannot even read all the things that are written abuyt [sic] me since I am so busy….seriously. POTUS seems to be enamored of me even though I am taking the spotlight away from him. We are developing a very unique and interesting relationship.”

There was a lot more in the diary, including Fauci complaining about Tucker Carlson branding him a “hypocritical buffoon.”
