‘Come On!’ JD Vance Asked About Trump 2028 Remark During Foreign Trip

Vice President JD Vance feigned exasperation when a reporter asked him about President Donald Trump’s recent comments on the 2028 Republican presidential primary during a foreign photo op.

Fox News senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy asked Trump a leading question about the 2028 election during a photo op at the White House this week, floating Vance as the MAGA “heir apparent”:

PETER DOOCY: You said this morning that you probably won’t be running for a 3rd term. This weekend, Secretary of State [Marco] Rubio said that he thought JD Vance would be a great nominee. You could clear the entire Republican field right now. Do you agree that the heir apparent to MAGA is JD Vance?

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Well, I think most likely, in all fairness, he’s the vice president. And I think Marco is also somebody that maybe would get together with JD in some form. I also think we have incredible people — some of the people on the stage right here.

So it’s too early, obviously, to talk about it. But certainly he’s doing a great job and he would be probably favorite at this point.

Vance spoke to reporters briefly on Friday during a photo op with United Kingdom Foreign Secretary David Lammy at his stately Chevening House residence.

When a reporter asked him about Trump’s remark, the VP cracked that he didn’t want to discuss “lowly things” in such a fancy house and gave a fairly standard dodge:

REPORTER: Mr. Vice President, what do you make of President Trump‘s comments this week about you’re the likely front runner in 2028?

VICE PRESIDENT JD VANCE: (LAUGHS) I don’t want to talk about lowly things like politics in this grand house. Come on. Look. I think my view on the politics of 2028 is I’m not really focused even on the election in 2026 much less one two years after that. And if we do a good job for the American people, the politics will take care of itself.
