DNC Mercilessly Roasts Tim Scott’s ‘Sad, Lackluster’ Campaign: ‘Lit Millions of Dollars On Fire’

The Democratic National Committee delivered a brutal epitaph for Senator Tim Scott‘s (R-SC) campaign — shortly after the senator decided to abandon his presidential bid.
Scott took Trey Gowdy by surprise Sunday night on Fox News when he announced the end of his campaign. As political watchers deliberate how this will impact the 2024 race, DNC spokesperson Sarafina Chitika released a fiery statement on the organization’s behalf:
“There wasn’t much to remember about Tim Scott’s sad, lackluster campaign that lit millions of dollars on fire to not even make it to Iowa. We thank him for spending his campaign reminding Americans that, from top to bottom, this GOP primary field is the most extreme in history, hellbent on passing a national abortion ban and gutting Social Security and Medicare. We won’t miss him, but we know his constituents must be glad to know there’s one less excuse for the Senator to miss yet another vote.”
Despite his solid fundraising numbers and positive message, Scott has had difficulty making headway in the GOP’s primary polling, and he didn’t seem to have a clear breakout moment during last week’s debate in Miami. The Associated Press notes “It was unclear whether Scott would qualify for the upcoming fourth debate.”
Since Donald Trump remains the clear Republican frontrunner, Scott’s departure adds to the recurring question of whether there is anyone in the primary field who can mount a viable challenge to the former president for the GOP nomination.
