Former GOP Congressman Joins 1/6 Committee Staff as an Adviser

Former Republican Congressman Denver Riggleman has joined the staff of the January 6th select committee.
Committee chairman Bennie Thompson announced in a statement Friday night the former Virginia congressman and Homeland Security Department Principal Deputy Counsel Joseph Maher are joining the committee’s senior staff to “provide invaluable insight and expertise as we piece together what happened on January 6th and in the time leading up to it.”

Riggleman posted a video to Twitter Friday night confirming he’s accepted the position of “senior technical adviser.”
The former congressman was an Air Force intelligence officer years ago, and he said joining the committee “might be one of the biggest things I’ve ever done in my life.”
“We can’t worry about the color of the jerseys anymore and whether we have an R or a D next to our name. It’s time for us to look in a fact-based way at what happened on January 6th, but to see if we can prevent this from ever happening again in the future,” he added.
It’s time. Thank you to the committee for your confidence. It’s an honor to serve alongside those who represent the best of America. We will see this mission through. #Jan6Committee pic.twitter.com/zPzXYNu2wS

Riggleman, who lost his primary last year, has been vocal in denouncing former President Donald Trump’s election lies and conspiracies. Last month he called out Republicans in Congress for their opposition to the “absolutely friggin’ necessary” January 6 committee.
