Jake Tapper And Seth Moulton Roast Trump Military Parade — Moulton Floats ‘Goose-Stepping’
Comic and political pundit Bill Maher and his guests roasted President Donald Trump’s planned military parade, with one suggesting Trump would prefer “goose-stepping.”
On Friday night’s edition of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, the interview guest was Barry Diller, co-founder of Fox Broadcasting, chairman and senior executive of IAC and Expedia Group, and author of the book “Who Knew.”
The panel guests were Jake Tapper, anchor of CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper” and co-author of “Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again”; and Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA).
During the show’s “Overtime” segment, a viewer asked about the planned parade, touching off varying degrees of mockery that included Moulton’s venomous “goose-stepping” dig:
BILL MAHER: As a veteran, what is your reaction to Trump’s plans for a military parade next month, which will reportedly include 28 Abrams tanks, 6,700 soldiers, 50 helicopters, 34 horses, 2 mules and a dog? But he is having his military parade for his
REP. SETH MOULTON: Well, it’s, you know, he’s a draft dodger. It’s his first military thing that he really gets to do. But I think obviously. He likes Putin he worships Kim Jong-un. He wants to be like that. That’s what he wants to do he wants to be a dictator like those guys and they have big military
JAKE TAPPER: I mean it seems to me like if we’re taking seriously the idea that our government spends too much money that doge comes in there and like says okay we need to cut eighty thousand jobs from the department of veteran veterans affairs and we’re gonna get rid of us the idea we’re going to do this and do that. I mean this seems like it’s unnecessary.
BILL MAHER: I guess I don’t like the, I mean, to me the worst part of it is getting used to the sight of tanks in the streets. That is something we don’t see in America.
JAKE TAPPER: By the way, as a driver in Washington, D.C., like our roads are bad enough before the tanks go, like.
REP. SETH MOULTON: That’s let me also be clear about something that if you know, you didn’t enter you might not know That we hate parades like you do not want us you don’t sign up to the mill for the military to be in a parade and 140 million dollars that could help a lot of vets
JAKE TAPPER: a lot of money I mean that’s you know and honestly like I if we take them at their word that doge is about we you know our deficits are bit too big that national debt is a disaster we need to get control of spending if we take that seriously this just doesn’t make any sense there’s literally nobody in the military community wants this
BILL MAHER: Why don’t you guys like parades? I thought everybody loved a parade.
REP. SETH MOULTON: I guess you got to march. Because you got a march. Yeah, I didn’t sign up to march, it’s not my thing. I’m with you. Goose step or not.
BILL MAHER: Yeah.
REP. SETH MOULTON: That’s probably what he’s looking for.
