Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), the far-right conspiracy theorist who has emerged as a sharp critic of President Donald Trump and their shared party, slammed Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Tuesday for not reconvening the House of Representatives.
Greene’s comments came after Punchbowl News’ Jake Sherman reported that during a House Republican conference call on Tuesday, Greene “said that she is tired of people listening to the White House political staff. MTG said that [Senate Majority Leader John] Thune needs to use the nuclear option and reopen the government. (In other words, abolish the filibuster and pass a funding bill).”
Greene responded to Sherman’s post with the following addendum:
You left out that I said I have no respect for the House not being in session passing our bills and the President’s executive orders.
And I demanded to know from Speaker Johnson what the Republican plan for healthcare is to build the off-ramp off Obamacare and the ACA tax credits to make health insurance affordable for Americans.
Johnson said he’s got ideas and pages of policy ideas and committees of jurisdiction are working on it, but he refused to give one policy proposal to our GOP conference on our own conference call.
Apparently I have to go into a SCIF to find out the Republican healthcare plan!!!
Greene has long been an enemy of Johnson, but has also made a habit of criticizing Trump and his administration in recent days as well. The controversial congresswoman has been scintillating in her evaluation of the GOP’s approach to navigating the ongoing government shutdown, although recent surveys indicate that the party has actually enjoyed a polling bump during it.
