‘No!’ Pro-Trump CNN Analyst Recoils At Suggestion He Could Become A ‘White Dude For Kamala’

Pro-Trump CNN analyst Scott Jennings recoiled when a fellow contributor suggested Vice President Kamala Harris could win him over as a “White Dude for Kamala” with a response she gave to Oprah Winfrey.

The VP participated in an event dubbed “Unite for America Rally with Vice President Kamala Harris and Oprah Winfrey” on Thursday night, during which Winfrey brought up the moment from the debate when Harris said she is a gun owner.

As Winfrey referenced the moment, Harris blurted out that “If somebody breaks into my house, they’re getting shot!” and laughingly said “I probably should not have said that, but my staff will deal with that!”

On Friday morning’s edition of CNN This Morning, anchor Kasie Hunt played that moment and asked her panel what they made of it. CNN legal analyst Elliott Williams got an immediate “No!” when he suggested the exchange could turn him toward Harris, but added he liked it more than “anything” Harris’s running mate has said:

KASIE HUNT: Her staff will deal with that later. The panel is back. Maya Wiley, what do you make of that moment there?

MAYA WILEY: Well, one, just the power of just Kamala Harris being Kamala Harris in and of itself is something that has been powerful in her campaign, I think, for a lot of voters.

And in that moment, that was one of those moments where you really felt after Oprah was asking, has the veil dropped? And then we saw the veil dropped.

But it was also shocking, right? I mean, this is in the sense that this is not something that Kamala Harris has pulled forward to use as a tool and a tactic in her campaign.

And I it’s it’s a very interesting thing to hear that she both is and that she has not used it. We can think of many reasons why, it’s a complicated issue for a lot of people.

But I also think in a way, it it’ll be interesting to see what comes of it. But I don’t think it’s going to hurt her with her base because of the other issues. People aren’t single issue voters.

ELLIOT WILLIAMS: I wonder if having a handgun on make Kamala Harris, Scott Jennings a White Dude for Harris.

SCOTT JENNINGS: No!

ELLIOT WILLIAMS: But no, I know I wasn’t–.

SCOTT JENNINGS: No.

ELLIOT WILLIAMS: –going to hold my breath, but I–

SCOTT JENNINGS: But what I like what she said about this far more than anything that Tim Walz has ever said. I can tell you that.

ELLIOT WILLIAMS: So, you know, it’s interesting. We were talking earlier, you were talking with Michael about this idea of a gender divide in men, but also there’s a gender divide and doubling down on attracting women.

It could actually help the Harris campaign. And when you see Oprah on stage in a sort of a coffee klatch format talking about some of the things they were talking about there, that is explicitly doubling down on the fact that they are doing well with women and need to run up the score with women in places like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and so on.
