‘So Irresponsible!’ Ex-Democratic Strategist Slams Mamdani for ‘Huge Mistake’ of Doxxing Rich New Yorkers

A former Democratic strategist ripped New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for doxxing a host of wealthy New Yorkers by publishing their names and addresses in a searchable database.

Mamdani made the move in connection with the state’s new pied-à-terre tax, which slap an additional tax on unoccupied, non-primary homes worth more than $1 million.

Dan Turrentine, a former Washington D.C. spokesman for now Gov. Jared Polis (D) when Polis served in the House of Representatives, said Mamdani’s decision to publish the names could invite violence or harassment.

Appearing Tuesday on The DC Huddle podcast with journalist Rachel Bade and former spokesman for President Donald Trump, Sean Spicer, Turrentine called the new database “stunning”:

So there’s two parts to this. The first is just the public policy of kind of trying to name and shame, right?

What if a mayor put out all the people on food benefits, public housing, SNAP and said, “Gosh these are the people who make me pay high tax rates because there’s so many people on the public dole” right? How outrageous is this?

People would be horrified, right? So there’s a real public policy kind of privacy issue, you don’t put your tax returns out. As you said they didn’t just put out who, they put out their physical addresses.

Turrentine then mentioned Mamdani’s spat with billionaire GOP donor Ken Griffin — noting the mayor once filmed a video in front of Griffin’s home.

Turrentine noted the experience of a friend in the healthcare industry who was “freaked out” after the Dec. 4, 2024 assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on a Manhattan street, before saying he thought Mamdani’s list could open the door to “crazy people”:

Do I think that there are crazy people who hear about some rich person who has a second home, and might not sit outside their house and — look it’s not that they’re gonna necessarily kill them, though that’s a possibility.

Throw ink at them, throw a pie at them, boo them, hiss them, harass them. Do I think that’s a possibility?

Do I think that if someone’s wife is walking — not that they’re all men — but a spouse with the kids are walking out and someone has their photographs and screams, “Your husband or wife is an SOB, you’re rich get out of here,” Yeah I think in a city of 8.5 million people I think crazy folks could hear that.

It’s so irresponsible and I think in an era of social media — we talk about Trump being very into optics and presentation, so is Mamdani — I think this was a huge mistake.

I think it’s insane I hope he apologizes …but you can’t do this. …I think someone’s going to sue.
