‘Thank You, Thank You’: Pam Bondi Claims DC Residents Are Whispering Their Gratitude to Federalized Police

Attorney General Pam Bondi claimed Monday that residents of Washington, D.C. are whispering their thanks when passing by federalized law enforcement officers because they’re thrilled to see them on the streets rooting out crime.

On Fox Business, Bondi told host Larry Kudlow, “Our law enforcement officers are telling us that people are coming up to them on the street — they said a lot of people are walking by whispering, saying, ‘Thank you, thank you, thank you.’ They’re hearing stories every single night and day of people saying that they feel safe now to walk their own neighborhood where they live, because of what our great men and women of law enforcement are doing at the directive of the president.”

Kudlow added, “And, going out to dinner, according to the president.”

Kudlow’s quip was a nod to a statement made by President Donald Trump during a question-and-answer session with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“The press says, ‘He’s a dictator, he’s trying to take over.’ No, all I want is security for our people. But people who haven’t gone out to dinner in Washington, D.C., in two years are going out to dinner, and the restaurants the last two days were busier than they’ve been in a long time,” Trump said.

The president continued, “Friends are calling me up, Democrats are calling me up. And they’re saying, ‘Sir, we want to thank you. My wife and I went out to dinner last night for the first time in four years, and Washington, D.C., is safe, and you did that in four days.'”

Trump made the controversial decision last week to federalize law enforcement in the nation’s capital and to send out National Guard troops to quell what he claimed was rampant crime.

But The Hill reported Monday, “Data from OpenTable found that seated diners in Washington last week started to drop dramatically compared to last year,” after Trump federalized the police. “On Wednesday, the number of seated diners at restaurants with reservations fell 31 percent, and Saturday’s drop was 20 percent,” the report said.
