Trump Border Czar Tom Homan Shocks Podcast Host With Kind Take on Migrants: Most Are ‘Family People’
Tom Homan, President Donald Trump’s border czar, said many undocumented immigrants in the U.S. are “family people” who, like most American citizens, do not want dangerous criminals roaming their communities.
Homan made the comment during a wide-ranging appearance Thursday on The Shawn Ryan Show, where he spoke for more than three hours about immigration enforcement, sanctuary cities, and the Trump administration’s deportation agenda.
Asked by Shawn Ryan about how sanctuary cities operate, Homan criticized jurisdictions that refuse to honor detainer requests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
He argued such policies allow public safety threats to return to the streets instead of being turned over to federal agents – endangering citizens and non-citizens alike.
“They’d rather release an illegal alien public safety threat back into the community,” Homan said of sanctuary city leaders.
Mocking leaders of those cities, he said, “‘Well, we’re a welcoming community. We’re a sanctuary city because we want victims that witnesses of crime, if they’re in the country illegally, victims and witnesses of a crime to feel comfortable coming and reporting that crime without fear that we’re working with ICE.’ Okay, that’s bullshit. We all know that.
Homan went on to argue that even undocumented immigrants don’t want violent offenders released back into their neighborhoods.
“If you went to an immigrant community and asked them one question. Would you rather have ICE operating in the jail or your community? They’re gonna say the jail.”
He added that many undocumented immigrants are not violent and share common concerns with citizens.
“Even the illegal immigrant community, even though they’re in the country illegally, many of them, once they get here, are pretty law-abiding,” he said. “They’re family people. They care about their families, too. They don’t want a predator in their neighborhood either.”
Homan served as acting director of ICE under Trump in 2017 and now advises the administration on border policy.
