Trump Repeats Baseless Claim Biden Spent $50 Million on ‘Condoms for Hamas’ — And Says They Turned Them Into Bombs

President Donald Trump repeated a baseless claim that the prior administration spent $50 million on “condoms for Hamas” while adding the militant group turned them into bombs.

Trump made the remarks on Wednesday afternoon at the White House just before signing his first piece of legislation since reentering the White House — The Laken Riley Act.

The claim about Hamas receiving condoms from the Biden administration came about earlier this week when White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the president’s pause on foreign aid stopped a plan involving “$50 million taxpayer dollars that went out the door to fund condoms in Gaza.”

However, as noted by CNN, the White House has provided no evidence that there was a federal plan to spend $50 million on condoms in the Gaza region. Trump repeated the claim while addressing concerns for Medicare and Medicaid following his decision to freeze federal aid and grants.

Medicare and Medicaid have not been affected by any action we’re taking in any way, shape or form. We are merely looking at parts of the big bureaucracy where there has been tremendous waste and fraud and abuse. And that process we identified and stopped $50 million being sent to Gaza to buy condoms for Hamas — 50 million. And you know what’s happened to them? They’ve used them as a method of making bombs. How about that?

CNN covered 5 reasons why the claim is almost certainly not true in its fact check, with one point being that the “Total worldwide USAID condom spending is far less than $50 million: In the 2023 fiscal year, USAID provided or funded a global total of about $7.1 million worth of male condoms and about $1.1 million worth of female condoms, overwhelmingly to countries in Africa, according to the federal report.”
