Trump Says He Won’t ‘Get Into What Happened’ In 2020 — Then Repeatedly Claims Election Was ‘Rigged’
Former President Donald Trump told pro-Trump host Brian Glenn he wouldn’t “get into what happened” in the 2020 election — then seconds later called it a “rigged deal” and repeated the claim later.
The insider political site Axios was widely and viciously roasted over a report that falsely claimed Trump had backed away from his claims about the 2020 presidential election.
But the part of that report that seems to be true is that Trump’s advisers desperately want him to stop claiming the election was “stollen.”
Trump participated in a live Super Tuesday special Monday night on pro-Trump media outlet Right Side Broadcasting Network (RSBN), which broadcasts all of the former president’s rallies and has widely been described as “Trump TV.”
In a telling moment, Trump feinted that he might skip his election griping with a wispily-veiled reference to it — before going on to explicitly call it a “rigged deal.”
He then went on to almost admit he lost “by just a whisker” — before calling the election a rigged disgrace again:
When I ran in 2016, it was very much about the border, but that border was like a baby compared to this border. This border is a disaster.
But I fixed the problem and fixed it so well, I couldn’t even talk about it in the 2020 election. And yet we got millions of more votes. We actually did much better.
I hate to tell you, we did much better the second time than we did the first time, and we don’t have to get into what happened.
But we all know what happened. It was a rigged deal, a terrible thing, terrible, terrible thing.
…
I have never seen enthusiasm like this, including — so we ran in 2016 and we did great and we won. We won in 2020. We did much better by almost 12 million votes, 12 million votes. That doesn’t happen. Usually if somebody runs a second time, they get less and they can win or lose, but they get less because, you know, people get bored and they get tired and they said, let’s give somebody else but normally get less or they get a little bit more.
President Obama got a lot less, and he won a lot less. But rarely do you see it where you get massively more.
And we have massively millions and millions and millions more votes than we had. So, you know, than we had in 2016. Now we were at 63 million. That was a lot in 2016. I was told that if you get the same by John McLaughlin, by Fabrizio, if you get the same number, 63 million, you can’t lose. It’s impossible to lose.
We got millions more votes than that and we lost just by a whisker, you know, just by a whisker! And that was a rigged election. And it’s a disgrace. And we’re not going to let it happen again!
